neither guy has any power to speak of, but polanco probably has a little more. pierre is faster. pierre hitting 2nd is probably a better use of his contact ability and willingness to work a deep count to let rollins/victorino try and steal a bag.

Makes enough sense to me. Once we get David Wright this won't be a discussion.

Working on a photo/video montage of Juan Pierre making outs on the basepaths and otherwise fucking up hilariously. Up to 44 photos so far

Were you addressing anyone? Because I don't think anyone here is talking about Pierre playing for a month killing the team.

I'd prefer we were going with one of the other options, specifically Mayberry or Mayberry in a platoon with Nix. It's going to be frustrating watching 1/3 of our at bats be taken by guys who get played defensively like pitchers by outfielders. It's not the end of the world, but it's a decision I would have preferred went in a different direction.

Maybe we can exhaust their OFers by alternating the guys they need to play shallow with the guys they need to play deep. Move in. Move out. Move in. Move out.

I think I may have something

Yeah, they do that kind of stuff during this series and then promote the heck out of it to give the illusion that these guys are approachable.

For ref, he's only at 500 million pieces right now. That's a lot of dimes.

Mayberry could have made this moot if he hit even a little. Same with Nix. Clear they don't have a load of confidence in Jberry.

no, we don't.

teams don't fret over spring performances of established guys with long big league track records. yayberry doesn't have a long track record. so when he sucks to high heaven in spring training, they are concerned.

again, he'll get at bats. i expect he'll play against every LHP. and if he hits, he'll start to take away ABs from Pierre and Wigginton.

The Pierre thing is a little weird. Chollie has always been a 3 run HR type manager, and Mayberry is one of the few 20+ HR threats we have healthy. I would have figured he'd have earned a little more good faith, although TBF his swing has looked terrible (very long again, getting beat inside by mediocre fastballs) in the games I've seen

Hopefully putting Mayberry in a position to succeed early on vs LHP will restore Chuck's confidence in him

lolanco will bat 3rd. So we're probably looking at

vic/rollins
rollins/vic
lolanco
pence
wiggy/berry
galvis
pierre
chooch
p

6-7-8 is a toss-up. I figure Charlie batting chooch 8th for turning over the lineup if he doesn't bat him 6th.

But when CLIFFLEE pitches...

vic/rollins
rollins/vic
lolanco
pence
CLIFFLEE
wiggy/berry
galvis
pierre
chooch
p

I just read the lineups and they have me spooked. Trying to remind myself that the season hasn't even started yet and it was just spring training, and it's meaningless, and maybe john mayberry will be good again, and maybe jim thome will manage to start a game a week or so, and maybe I will kill ty wigginton.

I think we're stuck with Pierre. I dont see why Cholly would be staring him at the top of the lineup right now if it weren't the case. Maybe he can maintain his .400 BABIP or whatever it probably is right now.

Once Polanco and Pierre's BABIPs even out, we're gonna score about .5 runs per game if Chase and Ryan aren't back

At the game last night they had an ask the phillies feature on the video board between innings, maybe they did it last year, but I don't recall it. They ask all the guys the same question and play all their answers back, last nights question was who on the team would you not want to go on a a long car trip with. Pretty much every ones answer was victorino. When they got to Vic he just shook his head and asked if everyone else said him.

Kendrick was the second most popular pick, I think it was CLIFF LEE who picked victorino AND Kendrick. The rationale behind Kendrick was because you never know what hes going to say, but you get the impression that everyone just fucking hates Kendrick. I wish I remembered all the answers, it was pretty funny, I hope they keep it up all season, it would be cool if they out it online somewhere.
