This year, with the addition of Matt Moore, they’re likely better. Add in David Price, James Shields and Jeremy Hellickson, it’s hard to find a better 1-4 than the ones the Rays have.

The Rays have the 2nd best rotation in baseball, and I could actually see how you could say its nearly a tie.

Our big 3 is better than Price, Shields and Moore in the aggregate, but Worley/Hellickson is a wash and Blanton/Niemann is a wash.

Our big 3 blows their big 3 out of the water, Moore is an unknown quantity, one start does not make a career. As for Worley/Hellickson, Worley's peripherals last year were so much better than Hellickson's and his FIP was over a run better, all Hellickson had was a .220 BABIP to go with his 5.5 k/9 and 4.4 FIP which gave him a 2.89 ERA.

yea you're wrong about Moore. I think there is a pretty good chance he actually has better numbers than Price this year. Barring a disaster, he'll strike out close to 200 batters and finish with an ERA under 3. He's a stud.

Halladay, Hamels and Lee are better in the aggregate.

I got Moore for $20 fewer than Price went in my mixed auction!

Price's fastball is ridiculous but the results haven't exactly been elite. All of our big 3 had better FIP/xFIP/tERA and SIERA :computernumbers: than Price.

Potentially yes, but until he actually does I'm going to hold off annointing him as the next great ace, he has the talent yes, but he's got to do that over more than one start for me before I jump on his bandwagon.

As for better in the aggregate, they're better period. Hummus is better than all 3 of the Rays starters right now and he's our #3. If Moore comes out and Felix Hernandez's the AL East I might change that statement but until then our big 3 are just better.

seriously though. Price's fastball alone makes him so enjoyable to watch. It's so nasty. I saw a start of his last year where he threw nothing but fastballs one inning.

neither guy has any power to speak of, but polanco probably has a little more. pierre is faster. pierre hitting 2nd is probably a better use of his contact ability and willingness to work a deep count to let rollins/victorino try and steal a bag.
