I'm very sensitive about having to spend hours kneecapping the Yankees and boosting the Phils before i play a game :P. Especially at pitching, how on earth do you make Yanks #1!?

Their bullpen is pretty good and Pineda was an awesome pick up

Pineda's got like 1 pitch. No one can succeed in NY with 1 pitch.

But #1... Come on Soren, no amount of amazing bullpen can make that staff #1. It's why i hate the show's ratings because the Yanks have been top 2 in every facet for years now. It took the Sawx epic slump to remove them from permanent top 3 placement.

Yeah, their pen is better than the Phillies.

1-5 in the rotation (including Blanton and Worley) is better than their 1-5, plus Phillies upgraded at closer.

The problem lies in that no matter how good your pen is, our rotation is so good it makes the pen comparisons moot. If the rotations were on equal footing, then Yanks come out on top, but they're not.

they have like 3 ace BP guys (including the GOAT closer). You gotta remember that for some reason people still think Phil Hughes is good and that Ivan Nova is something special

CC-Pineda-Kuroda-Nova-Hughes/Garcia--Logan-Robertson-Joba-Soriano--Rivera

Halladay-Lee-Hamels-Worley-Blanton--Kendrick-Willis-Stutes-Bastardo-Contreras--Papelbon

I say the Yankees are better at closer (slightly, until Rivera shows he's human and ages at all). Tie at #1 starter. 2 and 3 are clear Phillies advantages. 4 is slightly to the Yanks. 5 is slightly to the Yanks. So the Phils have a rotation advantage by a good margin. Middle relief, probably the Yanks cause of Soriano.

I'd take the Phils, but I can see taking the Yanks.

Can't see taking the Giants though.

Lincecum-Cain-Bumgarner-Vogelsong-Zito--Lopez-Casilla-Affelt-Romo--Wilson?

Tie at 1, Phillies by a good margin at 2, Phillies by a lot at 3, Giants at 4 and Phillies at 5. Phillies at closer. Giants in middle relief by a little.

It's still just a bullpen, the rotation is king, no amount of ace pen arms can make up for a woeful rotation. Statistically the Phils were the best staff and we had a middling rotation, and we were the best in almost every single facet, and those we weren't we were top 3. The Yanks cannot say the same. The bullpen is just not significant enough statistically to attribute it enough influence to take an alright rotation like the Yanks and make the staff #1.

supposedly he came in to camp overweight last year, resulted in down velocity, and the rest was history. but until he proves he can stay healthy and he's regained his arm strength, hes just speculative fodder.

hell, there are talks that he might not even beat out chief chin strap for a rotation spot.

Hughes might not make their rotation, he's like our Kendrick at this point.

Nova/Worley - which was the bigger fluke?
Garcia/Blanton - can Joe come back from injury and how much of a fluke was Garcia?

Fewer questions from the Phillies side for sure and clear big advantages at the 2 and 3, even if you call the 1 spot a wash.

The problem with your comparisons Lethal is that you're not accounting for the fact that the rotation usually has double the IP of the pen and sometimes even more. So our rotation advantage means double, which makes us #1, gg Yanks.
