That shouldn't be all that surprising. Galvis has always been considered one of the best defensive shortstops in the minors, and he actually hit in 2011 for the first time in his career. He's still really young, and the Phillies have pushed him aggressively. With Rollins entrenched, there is no real future for him here, so I could definitely see him being a big part of a July trade. He's not in the elite SS category, but nearly every scout is universal in saying he will stick at SS, and that's always the biggest red flag for any SS prospect.

Cole Hamels
LHP
Philadelphia Phillies
Age: 28

Why he'll stay: Yes, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee are there, but as they say, you can't have too much pitching. And Philly, which led MLB in attendance in 2011, has good cash flow.

Why he'll leave: The Southern California native might want to play close to home, and the next Dodgers owner could slot him in between Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley.

Chance he leaves: 60 percent

Bowden's bid: Five years, $90 million

Possible fits: Cubs, Yankees, Dodgers

- Bowden

I think if 5/90 was realistic, the ink would already be dried. He predicted 6/132 for Cain, which seems crazy considering Hamels is a superior pitcher and only 1 year older.

The true moral of the story--Jim Bowden is an idiot

I think 5/90 was more realistic back in about December of 2010 for Cole, but 2011 pushed him into another stratosphere.

I mean, Weaver just signed for less than that. He obviously gave the Angels a sweetheart deal, but it's not like he left $30M on the table (when you factor in risk minimization).

I think Weaver did leave a lot of money on the table. I think Cole is going to want $20M per, for at least 5 years, and probably 6.

Which could be 5/100, which isn't far off from Bowden's guess

He might be close on Hamels but Cain is significantly overvalued.

Just saw two things on MLBTR that were kind of interesting:

--Angels are thinking about trading Peter Bourjos to the Nationals for John Lannan
--Oswalt remains interested in coming back to the Phillies

I'd hate to see Washington get Bourjos (and to see Lannan, whom we reliably tune up a couple-three times every season, follow Chris Volstad out of the division). And we know the Phillies need to get younger, though this isn't as big a problem in the outfield as it is in the infield.

Would it be worth trying to figure out a deal with LA of A with the key pieces Worley from the Phils and Bourjos from the Angels? If Oswalt at this point would come back on a one-year deal for $5-6m, that's probably an improvement for the rotation given Worley's likely regression. Given our glut of relievers and their infield corners logjam, maybe there's even a really big deal to be struck in which we also could get a Callaspo or Trumbo.

Bourjos either pushes Victorino to left field or goes there himself, with Mayberry taking the bulk of 1b duties until Howard gets back and then serving as a three-OF/1b swingman, freeing up Wigginton to spot Utley and Polanco once or twice a week. Having Bourjos gives the Phils a viable replacement for Victorino after 2012.

Losing Worley hurts a little, but between Hyatt and the May/Rodriguez/Pettibon/Colvin group plus the veteran depth (Piniero, Misch) at triple-A, they should be okay even if Oswalt gets injured again.

Long shot, but I think there's some logic to it. I guess one problem would be that Oswalt at $5-6m would push them over the luxury tax, unless they could clear money elsewhere. Hell, maybe the Angels would take Blanton; if healthy, he has to be about as good a bet to perform as Lannan, and the Phils could pay half his tab and probably still stay under the limit. Of course given his one-year deal, the Phils would have to put more in on their end--maybe one of the good young relievers. I could live with that.

I like Bourjos, but Worley is worth a lot more than Lannan. Hell, Blanton for Bourjos makes more sense. I'd kick in $4M plus Blanton for Bourjos.

And he'd be a great 5th OF in 2012 and then an option in CF if we can't re-sign Victorino.

I think they like Bonjouros more than Blanton, and I suspect they laughed at a proposed Lannan offering. I'm guessing we would have more success going for Trumbo.

I like Bourjos, but I'd really like to get another guy who can work a pitcher a bit and take walks. I hate all the quick outs.

Trumbo blows.

Making the league minimum. Above avg at 1b, rumored to be passable at 3b. If his BB rate recovers from the 55% drop from AAA, then he would likely bridge the gap from his fWAR of 2.3 and your loverboy Headley's 2.7.
