The logical conclusion here is that Utley will be a HoFer

It's amazing that klein wore so many numbers that wound up being retired, but also amazing that he changed his number so often.

Until it occurred to me: back then, the Phils probably got one set of uniforms, with the numbers 1-50 or whatever. If you ruined one, you probably had to switch numbers.

Because yes, that's how cheap and poorly run the Phillies were in the 1930s. and 1920s. And 1940s until Carpenter bought the team.

And so will Lee Elia.

I found this quote in the Phillies.com midterm review (http://www.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... 95710-1053):

"Jimmy Rollins: This could be Rollins' last season with the Phillies. He hopes to go out with a bang. "

When I see comments like that posted on the team hosted site, am I reading to much into it to believe that the Phillies P.R. are slowly preparing the masses for the departure of a fan favorite like Rollins? Seems like an unnecessary statement, unless their is a growing concern within the organization that Rollins will be going to the highest FA bidder.

Good call- clearly wasn't paying attention to the articles author- still interesting that they wouldn't at least think twice posting that sentiment on their website?

there is no way they go more than 3 years and roughly 8 million on rollins in my opinion....i think its highly possible he goes.

i think if they add a big RH bat in LF...they will be ok letting jimmy walk

can still do a lineup of

victorino
polanco
utley
howard
big bat
dom brown
ruiz
valdez? galvis? someone like that?

actually....i wouldnt mind a SS like alex gonzalez from braves if he is a free agent either.

I don't think they have editorial control over his articles. He's mlb.com's beat writer for the Phillies. Everything he writes appears on their website, but he's not a cheerleader.

and i think its acceptable to let him walk if you get a big bat to hit 5th and fill in at SS with a good glove guy.

also this helps you resign cole......and madson if boras doesnt make him number too high.

We already know that ibanez, lidge, oswalt will be gone. Getting younger.......thats the name of the game in the offseason

The strange story of Arthur Irwin, the Phillies' manager with the highest winning percentage in Phillies' history for a manager who managed at least a full season or more (1894-1895, 149-110):

Wikipedia wrote:After serving as a scout for the New York Highlanders in the early years of the American League, Irwin left baseball entirely due to ill health. In July 1921, he was a passenger on the ocean-going vessel Calvin Austin as it steamed from New York City to Boston when he mysteriously disappeared. Irwin, 63, was presumed lost overboard, and drowned. Within days of his apparent suicide, it was discovered that Irwin had led a "double life" for 30 years, with a wife and child in Boston and a common-law wife and three offspring in New York. He was apparently successful in keeping these arrangements secret; they only came to light after his death.

According to one report, Irwin had learned that he had an incurable disease just before his ill-fated steamer trip. Said his legal wife, in Boston, upon hearing of Irwin's double life: "I feel confident and happy in the belief that, although he had this other woman in New York, he was on his way to me when he died … He turned to me as the woman he loved at the last. He wanted to die in my arms."

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that if J.C. Romero isn't called up by the Nationals by July 15, he'll opt out of his deal and sign a minor league contract with the Yankees.

Maybe if it's one of those new-school NHL deals where the last four years are all one dollar.

I just wonder what would have happened if she cluelessly lifted her shirt up like a bimbo. Pretty ballsy move by our green friend.
