It's amazing that klein wore so many numbers that wound up being retired, but also amazing that he changed his number so often.
Until it occurred to me: back then, the Phils probably got one set of uniforms, with the numbers 1-50 or whatever. If you ruined one, you probably had to switch numbers.
Because yes, that's how cheap and poorly run the Phillies were in the 1930s. and 1920s. And 1940s until Carpenter bought the team.
