Also regarding Lopes. I like him but the Phils were a really good base stealing team before he got to Philly. I think he helped Victorino a lot. But the Phils somehow had learned about the goodness of high base stealing percentages despite being old school and not understanding the new metrics and all that jive.

Just for fun, I went and looked up the Phils' players +/- ratings from Dewan:
Howard; -7; 32nd
Valdez; -11
Rollins; -10; 35th
Polanco; -2; 13th
Ibanez; -3; 32nd
Victoringo; +2; 20th
Mayberry (CF); +5
BenFran; +5; 7th
It must be too early for these stats to be right. Just look funny. I think our extreme pitching staff -- high Ks; might have an effect on these ratings. Also, I believe the impression that we've had from watching the games of the opposition getting more than their share of babip bloobs and infield singles and stuff may be true.
Defensive stats are kinda goofy anyway.
