Besides, he wanted to play with the best pitching rotation in baseball in StL

Berkman wasn't all that cheap. Went for like 8mm for the one year IIRC. Don't think that would have worked with Cliff Lee. Looks like a nice signing for STL though

No DL necessary at this point. He needs rest and they are going to see how the back reacts after a few days off. Luckily, they will have had 2 off days in the span of 5. They did say they may bring up a 3rd catcher though for the time being.

I'd just as soon give Orr a shot. It would be interesting to see if it's easier to throw out runners without all that bulky catcher's equipment.
