so there's a Panther named Captain Munnerlyn

 That's awesome. Took a quick look at his wikipedia page and this quote from him is great:

Munnerlyn also said that his "sisters and brothers also have ridiculous names"

Real quote (not the one someone made up on wikipedia)

On where his name came from: My momma promised my grandmomma that she could name the last child. I was the boy of the family, and she named me Captain. Her great grandfather was named Captain, so I got named after my great-great grandfather. My sisters and brothers have normal names. I got the odd name. In the beginning it was kind of rough. Kids used to tease me a little, but it fits my personality, because I feel like I'm a leader.

And that, Jimmy Wales, is why I will not be making a donation.

I'm not going to complain about this anymore.

14 teams finished with winning records this year

Draft placement of the starting QB:

199
3
11
18
11
5
32
1
1
230
24
1
17
4

Brees, Brady and Cassel were the only three taken out of the first round, with Brees at 32 before the NFL expanded to 32 teams. A quick glance at the rest of the teams in the league, and it seemed fewer than half had first round QBs at the helm for the majority of the season.

But I'd guess most of those teams had at least attempted to draft a QB in one of the first two rounds recently, and that the key to becoming successful there is actually drafting/developing the right guy. For example, David Carr, Alex Smith and J.P. Losman were all first rounders, and now all three of the teams that drafted them are crappy.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

From my calculations, only 6 of the other 18 had first-round QBs start most of their games.

Palmer
Bradford
Smith
McNabb
Campbell
Young/Collins

Yeah I wasn't trying to go for that drafting a QB early is a guarantee of success, but that having a QB drafted early is almost a necessary condition for it.

The opposite way of looking at it though is since Peyton there've been 8 QBs taken #1 overall and only Vick is starting for a playoff team. Of the others Eli is the only one who has won a playoff game.

Was thinking about these things while watching Luck be fantastic last night.

Some times I think Joey Flacco is going to be a stud and sometimes I think he's about as good as he's going to get. Weird guy. Strong arm, supposedly smart, decent weapons. I feel like he should be developing quicker than he is, but it might just be because I usually only see him against teams like Steelers etc.. on national games.
