Which top prospect won't be a Flyers next year? This is so great. Took him 2 years to completely change the outlook of the franchise.

By retaining portions of both Schenn and Lecavalier's contracts, the Flyers have now reached the maximum number of salaries that can be legally retained. The limit is three salaries at one time, and since Philadelphia still is paying part of Nicklas Grossmann's contract this season, Hextall will not be permitted to provide cap relief to another team in a 2016 deadline trade.

So I think the Flyers now have the following 2016 Draft picks
1st Round: Own
2nd Round: Own and Chicago's
3rd Round: Own and Los Angeles'
4th Round: Own
5th Round: Own
6th Round: Own and Los Angeles'
7th Round: Own

Any interest in trading for Jonathan Drouin? He's only 20 and has requested a trade from the Lightning, read somewhere that maybe B. Schenn plus some picks could be a starting point but we might have to take Carle back because of cap issues.

I've also thought about this but the cost would be significant. Probably Schenn + our 1st rounder and possibly more. Drouin hasn't showed enough in the NHL to give up that much plus he's a jerk. Hextall is building this the right way and Drouin is the kind of guy that will ask for 10 mill/year when he's a restricted free agent in a couple of years. Pass.

hard to see Stevie Y actually moving Drouin. still very cheap for this season and next, would also be selling low (looking at you JVR). Just young and frustrated, but doesn't feel like there is urgency to move him.

And they already have the Bruins 3rd rounder in 17 from the Rinaldo trade

Why would it cost more than Schenn to obtain Drouin? Drouin has nothing on his NHL resume to show that he's more than Pavel Brendl. While not being a fan of Schenn's game, he has shown the he can be a decent second line player. Schenn's best position is center and TB could use that. Actually I'm more concerned about Drouin being a problem than Schenn not being enough talent to make the trade.

I'm totally buying into the theory that Hextall has been plotting for years to have enough cap space to get the Flyers white whale, STAMKOS. He has said that FA is a way to overpay for mediocre talent and that's how you get into cap trouble. If an elite player hits the market, different story. It's gonna happen.

When is Stamkos a FA, after this season?
