It wasn't too long ago that "sucks" and "blows" were heavy duty curses. Now they're everyday words. I don't have a problem with any words. But we live in a society and there's a decorum. I want my kid to learn that decorum- and if that changes, so be it, I'm not going to get pigheaded about the "old" way. But That Word is still on the wrong side of that line.

Is what Chase did really the same though? He basically used it to express his happiness over an extremely rare event.

I just think it's unfortunate there's more emphasis put on the actual words than the intent. Nothing about what Utley was expressing was a bad thing. One could politely say something racist or something of that nature without using any words that are considered bad.

Also, I think it's been at least 25+ years since sucks and blows have been heavy duty curses, but maybe that's the time frame you meant.

this was one of the best moments of the day. i can understand why some people might be upset about it, but that seems so out of touch to me. it was, as someone mentioned, a representation of how we've all felt the past few days. when he said it, the stadium exploded, everyone i was with loved it, and i expected to see it on a t-shirt when i got home.

i get the whole "don't be a foulmouth" attitude, but expletives are like tabasco sauce for your language. too much will hurt you, but when used properly, it's dynamite.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

It would have been funnier had Charlie Manuel said it...

Exactly, probably the loudest roar from the crowd was after this

I can understand why some parents would be mad, but all in all this type of language and the extense it was used (1 time) could be heard pretty much anywhere these days.... whether it be at school, by friends or randomly in public....

The circumstance in which he used it couldn't have been more perfect for total forgiveness in my opinion... I don't blame chase, I blame the alcohol

I bet the team dared him to do it again after what happened at the All Star game.
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

MLB.com has a story up on the subject

Utley's response to the whole thing?
"They said they wanted short and sweet," Utley said. "That was short and sweet."

From that same MLB article, from Charlie:

"Chase is good, real good," Manuel said. "That's a common word anymore. ... That's not that bad, is it?"

Bucky, if your son says "World Fucking Series" to my wife, I'll make sure he's not punished, and I'll even see if he can be rewarded.
