No, we have 2 more group games against Taiwan and Japan, each of the next two days. I think if we win 1, we'll be in very good shape to advance to the medal round.

Those weren't the "PR Crew," those were the loaders, so they were already right there.

may-walsh just took a dump on the brazilians' chest to advance to the gold medal match. 21-12, 21-14

the brazilians kicked may-walsh off the court they were practicing on about an hour before the match. when you're about to get fisted you don't piss off the fister.

Pretty cool semi-final in the womens track cycling sprint. Australian came up on the inside of the chinese woman, bit of jostling, Australian nearly goes over but then recovers, loses by a hairsbreadth, but goes through because the chinese women got penalised for the contact. UK vs Aussies in the final.

the madison is strangely hypnotic.

us baseball is playing taiwan right now and leading 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th. this is a really important game to win because japan, who we play tomorrow, is probably favored to beat us and we need a win here to have a good shot at making the medal round.

edit: winning this game will actually clinch a medal round berth for the us, as it would leave us 2 games ahead of 5th place with 1 game left.

us wins and clinches a spot in the medal round

we play japan tomorrow. i think a win would give us the 3rd seed, and a loss would give us the 4th seed. i don't think we can get 2nd cause we lost to cuba.

I think Brazil has reason to feel aggrieved over that goal. Sorta looked like the upper arm might have put it in.

I'm not watching this game, but Brazil kicked Argentina's full-strength ass without Ronaldinho or Kaka last summer. I think they've still got South American bragging rights.

Maybe, but Argentina is about to win another gold medal, and they throttled them in the second half today.

I sometimes misread when I'm quickly scanning posts. I initially misread that as medieval round. Now that would be cool...

There was a debate on the radio, NPR specifically, if beach volleyball belongs in the games. the claim was made that it a purely invented US sport to stack competition and medals to the US. After seeing enough trampoline for the rest of my life, I need to wonder why that is not being assailed. Is that stupid rhythmic gymnastics still around?

Air rifle; skeet shooting; sailing; judo; tae kwon do; 50 km walk; Horsie stuff; badminton; archery.

They are all Olympic Sports.

Beach Volleyball fits in with that kind of stuff. Not really sports but things people do that you can determine a winner and give out medals.

The real reason Beach volleybvall is in the Olympics is because it's popular with the key 18-34 demographic and the competitiors hardly wear anything at all. It makes for good TV.
