Carlos Ruiz was a 27 year old who gave the team a reason to be optimistic. Having a vet as a back-up plan was a good idea. Lou Marson will be a 22 year old coming off a season with a .434 OBP. Ruiz was the starter, so even in a weaker position they made him a starter as a rookie. Ruiz, it turns out, is questionable. His .609 OPS may mean he won't get a starting opportunity any time soon.
