Dude, for real

Those weren't the only tears I shed today. That rally towel served multiple purposes today.

True story: I actually had a dream last night that Jimmy got triple #20 today. But it got surreal as his teammates mobbed him, and he walked around the field acknowledging the crowd- who were booing, because it was an away game.

Why in the world would I dream someting like that??!?!? I need to see a shrink.....

JRoll lead the league in runs scored. Isn't that what a lead-off guy is supposed to do more than anything else? Get on base and score? So I don't know if this will impact MVP voting, but he was a slugging/yet run scoring lead-off man. A couple more hits and walks and it would be a lock, they like that .300 average, and he'd have even a higher OBP with a few more walks, but the power numbers were ridiculous, 2 double shy of 90 extra base hits! Tha'ts no joke!

and the record for most single season at bats...

** that is a pretty strange record to keep **

I think that his defense gets over looked too often in these discussions.

zp and other meh-sayers are discounting Jimmy's Jeter-y 2007 vibe; I agree, Jimmy's larger-than-most-leadoff guys-life profile should score with voters. Whatizname in CO is a fine player, and may have "actually" contributed more to his team's results; heck, same with Larry, or Wright. But we're talking showbiz here.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Remember when everyone complained that Jimmy swung for the fences too often and it hurt his game? I don't miss those days at all. He may not be perfect, but I love the player that Jimmy's become. He's both unique and awesome and I can't ask for more as a fan.

I don't think you'd find many of those people on here (or pp.com in the past).

Jimmy should be swinging for the fences, or at least trying to hit the ball as hard as possible. None of that small ball crap.

Yeah, it was quite the vibe at the time. In fact, when JRoll had those commercials, I even suggested taking a sign to the stadium-

"Hit it to me JRoll, hit it to me- signed, The Ground".

I am happy to be wrong. It was frustrating at times watching his development, but the end picture was sure worth the pain.

I hereby publicly apologize to Jimmy.

(Think he'll sleep better tonight? )

It's interesting that Jimmy hasn't made an All-Star game roster the last two seasons. Also strange that the three seasons he did make the All-Star game (2001, 2002, and 2005) were all seasons that were worse than seasons he didn't make it (2004, 2006, and 2007). Notice he had huge second halves in each of those seasons. Think not making the All-Star game serves as a motivator for Jimmy in the second half?

Let's hope Jimmy pulls a Justin Morneau and wins the MVP without making it to the AS game.

Also - there is a history for votes for defensive play and leadership. Ozzie Smith came in second to Andre Dawson in '87 when he posted a .775 OPS with 0 HRs.
