The lens makes all the difference in the world. But the Olympus stock lenses are nice. I use 40-150mm that comes with the camera for the baseball pics.

Yep. Did it in Photoshop. CS5 does is pretty nice. Though I think the fisheye lens is next on my list.

Clearly I don't know what I am talking about.

14mm on a Four Thirds camera (as his Olympus is) is equivalent in field of view to 28mm on a full-frame camera, so it's wide angle, but not ultra-wide. I think you shoot a Nikon DX format, right? Your equivalent lens would be about 18 or 19mm.

Yea, I wasn't even doing the conversion. I think my D80 is about 1.5 times the focal length. I will see some curvature with my 10-20mm which is really 15-30mm which is probably why I made the comment at first without doing the conversion on his lens.

I may be able to sell you a Canon XTI if you want. Three years old, mint condition

Cool. either of you guys let me know. My wife has since upgraded to a 7D so I'm sure she'd be willing to part with it, and we need to finish our basement. I think it was a good starter SLR. Easy to use, not too huge, etc...

There are lots of reviews on the web (note that its full name is the Canon EOS Rebel XTI--sometimes referred to as the 400D)

p.s. we also have 2 lenses for it above and beyond the kit lense it came with

Sorry about the size...I am too tired to mess around with them anymore

Edit: A little easier to view now.

Some stuff from my vacation so far:

Taughannock Falls, near Trumansburg, NY:

The Corning Museum of Glass offers some neat opportunities for (semi-)abstract stuff:

Upstate NY is a few weeks behind the Philly area in terms of climate, so the flowers are gorgeous right now:

Yeah, these are amazing. I used to go up the Finger Lakes as a kid. My parents would drag me around to a bunch of wine tastings (awesome for an 11 year-old), but Watkins Glen was always great.

Are you gonna swing by Cooperstown?

Nope, we're home now. My wife and I did Cooperstown a few years ago and it was fun but not really a good trip for photography.

Yeah so your pictures are definitely better than my cellphone snapped pictures in State College tonight.

They were incredible though(the fireworks, not my pictures).
Do it again!

Thanks all.

Woody, your fireworks shots are great. How close were you? There were fireworks on the lake the night of the 3rd but they were all the way on the other side, which was about a mile and a half away, and I couldn't get any useful shots.
