anyone here ever use any medium format cameras? been shopping for one lately and found this doojaber:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Mamiya-RB67-Pro-SD- ... 568wt_1141

GREAT price, but I'm concerned, because in all of the Flickr groups where this camera is used, darnit most of the pictures suck. Now, generally the more expensive the camera the shittier and duller the composition, so I'm tempering my concern a bit. This used to be a very pricey camera 15, 20 years ago, but has lost a lot of resell value b/c of the digital move.

But does anyone here have experience with this cam?

I did not take this pic, but recently purchased this 1970 negative on eBay.
The unique feature and the reason I love this picture is Larry Hisle has the new (at the time) Phillies "P" on his uniform and the old "P" on his helmet.

I finally got around to organizing and hosting all the Vintage Phillies negatives/slides I have collected over the years.

That is totally awesome. You should share with Paul Lukas over at UniWatch.

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of my favorites. Nothing on the BF Bridge yet. Probably sometime this Spring I'm going to get down to Front Street/Penns Landing area and take some shots.

NY is not exactly my favorite city, but there is no better city for walking if you are a photographer. The possibilities are endless.

Great! Looking forward to seeing those shots!
If you get the chance, while you're in the general area, check out Delancey Street, between 2nd and 4th--there's just something about that section of Delancey--it's very visually appealing, at least to me.

There's this boat --Yankee Clipper--you can take from Weehawken, NJ to Yankee stadium--it's a pretty good way to get there without alot of hassle. Anyway, on the boat ride there, you pass under the Brooklyn, Williamsburg, and Queensboro bridges. The view from being on the river approaching the bridges, and as you pass under each of them is great.

So, I'm scanning some old photos for my family. The DPI is set at 200. I looked this up, but I'm still not entirely sure what its purpose is and what I should set it at.

I have no plans on printing these photos, but I may make some at Walgreens or something some day.

To not lose quality when you reprint, you'll want to scan at the same resolution you'd print at. Most printers do upwards of 600dpi (even 1200 or 2400) but 300 dpi is more than adequate for photo printing (most people cannot see the difference between 300 and 600 with the naked eye), so scanning at 300 dpi is a good rule of thumb.

If you want to enlarge, you'll want to scan at a higher resolution, but keep in mind that the prints your scanning might not have enough detail to really warrant it, which is to say, no matter how high a resolution you scan and print at, enlargements aren't going to show any more detail because it just wasn't there in the original.

This is my daughter with my wife's father. This picture was badly overexposed but I thought I could work with it, which I did here. I dialed in some negative exposure compensation and then cranked the luminance curve which exaggerated the overexposure, but also highlighted her eyes, which I think really works here. I really love this photo.

Spending the morning trying to get organized and cleaning up some stuff from last year. At the end of the season last year Baseball America used one of my images of Roy Halladay on their cover. I don't get the magazine anymore, so I did not even know they used it until the check came. It wasn't huge, but it was nice to have them use a pic I took of my favorite team. The original shot (from April in Houston) is to the right.

Image

To make it more fun, they also included the cover on the back of the 2011 Almanac.

I like it. It reminds me of a photo of my daughter when she was around 6 mos old. She has her head on my wife's shoulder sucking her thumb. The focus is not perfect but I lowered the saturation and gave it a tint and I love the way it looks in spite of the fact that it is not technically the best shot.

I have been shooting with my D80 for 4 years now. I am itching to upgrade.
