Photography II

Postby phatj » Sun Mar 27, 2011 22:34:28

Speaking of new glass, I just ordered a $30 lens. It's a 35mm f/1.7 C-mount lens, which is designed for TV cameras and the like. My camera (Panasonic G1) is able to, with adapters, accept nearly any interchangeable lens for any system ever made. This lens would be nearly impossible to use on any DSLR (unless you only do macro work) as to focus normally it would have to be inside the camera body.

It's not "good" glass by any stretch but I'm looking forward to playing with it and will post some photos once I get it (7-20 business days, shipped from Hong Kong).

zOMGmazing 50 gigapixel 360 panorama of the Strahov Library. You can zoom in enough to make out book titles on spines, and brush strokes of the fresco on the ceiling.

I love the first two. Very cool.
In my opinion, the third one would benefit from cropping out the heads of the fans walking by.

Here are a couple shots taken with my wife's point-and-shoot showing what the lens looks like on the camera and next to it, with another small lens for comparison. It's REALLY small.

Here are a couple of samples from this lens, both taken wide open. The bokeh is very weird at this aperture, and it's not very sharp even in the center, and drops off sharply to the edges.

For flower closeups it produces a dreamy effect which is kind of cool, I think. For portraits it's very challenging, especially if your subject doesn't hold still, as it's strictly manual focus and you have to be careful to keep your subject in the center of the frame.

Thanks, that's kind of what I was thinking. No special processing to produce that effect - the lens does that. At smaller apertures it behaves more normally which is useful if this isn't the look you want.

you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Parents are on vacation so I had to run over to dad's boatyard to check on a few things....If anyone here watches NASCAR, most of these boats in these pics are owned by Martin Truex, Sr.

Nice photo, but how about just the link with a NSFW tag next time?

The whole set is very good. Lovely model and lovely setting, and excellent camera work. Where is that?

sorry about that, phatj. I had access to the chrysler building. you go through an office to get to it, so not an observation deck. I can't imagine there's been too many photoshoots out there in the last 50 years or so.
