The Sopranos

Postby joe table » Tue Feb 01, 2011 15:13:04

That writeup is insane. I didn't really even like the Sopranos all that much but that was very interesting analysis

The only thing watching live I can say I picked up (out of the apparently dozens and dozens of symbols) in the last scene was the Adriana/orange cat/orange tiger thing

I can only imagine how completely disgusted Werner Herzog would be at Woody. Like, Rube vs hooker who also happened to be a member of Philly media contempt

There was a much shorter article that's been out a couple years explaining all of the same Soprano's stuff in less detail, so I just assumed the Sopranos ending wasn't even a topic of wonder or debate anymore. Brilliant, that David Chase.

I dig Werner, film-making, symbolism, cinematography, the whole nine. I watch and read analyses of films all the time. 2001 is one of my all-time favorites. But Bad Lieutenant New Orleans is just too much

And I think season 3 is the best season.

Season 3 seems to be the peak of every tv series.

season 3 was the first I watched while it unfolded - we used to watch it in the McKinley tavern in Elkins Park when my buddy was cooking. I think it's my favorite too but I have to rewatch the later seasons.

avclub recently finished their recap of S3 - I love Pine Barrens (even though it looks nothing like the real pine barrens, was filmed in upstate NY or CT) but Amour Fou might be the greatest episode of the series.

Pine Barrens is my favorite episode, no question. I loved seeing Leotardo's face getting plowed. Bobby dying was the saddest part of the show for me. I loved that character for the series duration.

I liked how Tony kills Christopher, then keeps reiterating to everyone about the babyseat and how if the baby was in the car, she would have died, like he was trying to justify suffocating Christopher to anybody with ears.

Don't think so.

Just when he thought he was out . . . they pulled him back in.

That post-Pussy killing montage at the end of Funhouse intercutting Meadow's graduation party with the various LCN criminal enterprises, set to the Rolling Stones, was haunting and remains one of my favorite sequences in the show's run.

What was the episode where they made Christopher pick up a massive check at a restaurant, leading to an argument outside where Paulie eventually throws a rock at some random guy's head who then proceeds to have a seizure and be shot?
