I wrongly quoted someone as saying “fall by the waste side” in my first ever news article.

The managing editor goes, “I have no doubt that’s how she said it, but let’s not make her sound like an idiot.”

I was like, “Definitely, yep”

Yup, Bucky is delivering fake news. I was actually on wikipedia the last week looking up the names of my old schools to see where they got their names, given the debate around the Abington high school name. William Tennent founded a school in Warminster in 1727, named Log College, that had about 20 graduates in the 20 years they existed. It indirectly led to the creation of the college of new jersey, which was renamed Princeton.

I'm so embarrassed to have no called him out as an alum of both Tennent and Log College Middle School. I did only sleep 3.5 hours Saturday into Sunday and was about to drive from DC to Warminster, it's still no excuse.

I spent time in the Centennial school district, so I was looking up all of those schools. Didnt attend all of them. I was looking up William Davis Elementary and didnt get very far. William Tennent was at least an interesting answer.

An article about a woman named Babs who's trying to cancel her gym membership.

Here's a sample sentence:

Eventually, Babs worked their way up to the general manager of the LA Fitness, who told them that even they couldn’t cancel their membership without the operations manager.


Is this now considered okay? Is there anyone here who thinks that's an acceptable way to write that sentence?

Yes. This was deemed acceptable by some style guides recently because of gender inclusion. Sacrifice clarity for feelings.

It's acceptable in situations where gender isn't known or germane so this particular usage is incorrect. Unless this person defines herself as non-binary...which does not seem to be the case.

I think the AP recently changed to allow a phrase like 'If someone were to take their car to this shop...' instead of 'If someone were to take his or her car to this shop...'
