google home can use IFTTT to use logitech harmony, right? (i know routing through that is kinda slow).

i basically only use my google home to set timers and turn on lights.

I mean I use the remote when I have it but if I'm in the other room or walk in the door and want to put a game on quickly, it's nice to do it while putting my stuff away. Saves me at least like 12 seconds!

I think so but having an Echo available I haven't really looked into it. I'm sure it'll have as much smart home integration as the Echo pretty soon.

My kids are now conditioned to respond to Alexa's alarms to do shit in the morning. She's a great parent
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

I do that, too. Of course, my wife never looks at the fucking app so we still don't get the shit we need. I really need to train her better.

going back and forth. will be in my office for lighting control/music/podcasts. I love the sound from the big one, (/PiP) not sure if I want to risk the smaller speaker.

Google Home, Vox got it for me for Christmas. Very funny that the toddler follows me, "Google, turn off the alarm" "Google, add Pop-tarts to the shopping list". So far, he's missed the "Hey" or "OK", but it's only a matter of time.

Vox got it for music, because I've had a hate/hate relationship with the two bluetooth speakers we've tried. The best is the hands-free timer when I'm cooking though.

But where do you plug it in so the cord is not a tripping hazard?

Me and the Mrs are looking for something to replace our school lapstops. I have a nice iMac at home, but need something for travel/work.

Any suggestions for something to do internet basics, word processing, etc. that would be a bit friendly on the pocketbook?

For just basics, a chromebook will do well for the price point. I have had one for a couple years now and use it for everything. You just can't "install" apps/games. But there are also chromebooks that support android apps.

Chromebooks are great. I bought one for 200 bucks three years ago, have dropped it a bunch of times, and still use it constantly. light to travel work. work recently gave me a brand new iPad but the old chromebook is better imo

I love my Chromebook. Had it for a year and a half. It definitely has memory limitations, but for internet browsing and light work use, it's a fantastic device.
