Federal Troops operating from unmarked vans in Portland, OR detaining protesters.

"We’ve done a great job in Portland," Trump said. "I guess, we have many people right now in jail, and we very much quelled it. And if it starts again, we’ll quell it again very easily. It’s not hard to do if you know what you’re doing."

Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Mayor Ted Wheeler and other local leaders have said they didn’t ask for help from federal law enforcement and have asked them to leave.

And so it goes.

Having spent more then a year of time spread across 10 years of my life, Portland will not react well to this turn of events. Nothing is uglier then when hippies shift to something less peace loving like violence.

It really is. This is absolutely insane
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2 ... l-arrests/

When several men in green military fatigues and generic “police” patches sprang out of an unmarked gray minivan in front of Mark Pettibone in the early hours of Wednesday morning, his first instinct was to run.
He did not know whether the men were police or far-right extremists, who frequently don militarylike outfits and harass left-leaning protesters in Portland, Ore. The 29-year-old resident said he made it about a half-block before he realized there would be no escape.
Then, he sank to his knees, hands in the air.
“I was terrified,” Pettibone told The Washington Post. “It seemed like it was out of a horror/sci-fi, like a Philip K. Dick novel. It was like being preyed upon.”
He was detained and searched. One man asked him if he had any weapons; he did not. They drove him to the federal courthouse and placed him in a holding cell. Two officers eventually returned to read his Miranda rights and ask if he would waive those rights to answer a few questions; he did not.
And almost as suddenly as they had grabbed him off the street, the men let him go.
Pettibone said he still does not know who arrested him or whether what happened to him legally qualifies as an arrest. The federal officers who snatched him off the street as he was walking home from a peaceful protest did not tell him why he had been detained or provide him any record of an arrest, he told The Post. As far as he knows, he has not been charged with any crimes.

two sides to every story... and at bsg it's usually only one unfortunately. the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle, love to hear the other side and find out where the truth actually lies.

I was going to post about this last night. For those who haven't seen the story, guys in camo are jumping out of unmarked vans and abducting people. It's like the Handmaid's Tale. People aren't being told why they are being picked up or what's going on. They don't even know they are in a law enforcement facility because they are not allowed to see where they're going. This is the most fucked up thing of Trump's presidency so far, imo. And it's coming from the WH. Wolf said he didn't want to step on the WH announcement, so that's where it's coming from.

Someone is going to get killed because eventually they'll try to grab someone who happens to have a gun.

This is a test run. I'd bet they plan to do something like this on election day, scaring people into staying in their homes. They'll say it's for our protection

What I think is a really good Biden ad has been playing here and there in the Philly market (though not anywhere close to as much as that stupid "911" Trump ad). The Biden ad is essentially bits of his campaign speech under various stills of him on the trail and ends with something like "the presidency isn't about me, its about you". I think it is really powerful, especially juxtaposed against Trump's doom and gloom ads.

Seeing this one quite a bit and agree with you about it.

well hard a bit of an interview on some NPR show with a woman clarifying defund the police. They said to her, 'you do not mean getting rid of the police altogether like the Trump ad says because that will be used by the right to scare people', and she replied 'sure do' 'police service is like that today so get rid of it all'.

This is where suburbanites start thinking that they can hold their nose and vote Trump or just not vote at all even with Biden saying that getting rid of police is not on the table.

The guy even clarified something like 'active shooter' and she took the pass. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Found it on Here and Now about 1:25 into the interview. My paraphrase was pretty close.

David Shor’s Unified Theory of American Politics - retweets are not endorsements, and there are things in here I don't agree with or obviously would frame differently as I come at many things from a different perspective than him, but this has been getting a lot of deserved love on Twitter today and is worth the read if politics/polling/elections interest you

No sane person dismisses need for law enforcement. However, there are plenty of anarchists that populate the far left that would like nothing more.

What is the latest date that the senate could still get a nominee confirmed before trump leaves office in January? I’m guessing she only has to hold on a few more months

If RBG died on Dec. 16 Trump would have a nominee on the 17th and they'd ram in through in a week.

It appears Fauci feels emboldened with Trump on the ropes. He is daring Trump to fire him after that InStyle interview.

Only half joking.

There must be some way for Democrats to stall the process?
