unfortunately, “spectacle” is now the best way to describe Portland’s protests. Vandalizing government buildings and hurling projectiles at law enforcement draw attention — but how do these actions stop police from killing black people? What are antifa and other leftist agitators achieving for the cause of black equality? The “Wall of Moms,” while perhaps well-intentioned, ends up redirecting attention away from the urgent issue of murdered black bodies. This might ease the consciences of white, affluent women who have previously been silent in the face of black oppression, but it’s fair to ask: Are they really furthering the cause of justice, or is this another example of white co-optation?
Philadelphia NAACP president Rodney Muhammad shared a meme that depicted an anti-Semitic cartoon next to photos of Black celebrities who recently came under fire for their own allegedly anti-Semitic comments.
After being contacted by a reporter, Muhammad removed the post, initially saying he didn’t remember sharing it. He later acknowledged the meme — but said he didn’t realize the image included was offensive to Jewish people.
“To be real honest with you, I didn’t even pay attention to the picture,” he said.
The post included a caricature of a Jewish man wearing a yarmulke and pressing a large, bejewelled hand down on a faceless mass of people. Similar caricatures trace back to before the Holocaust, and were often used to depict Jews as a force of greed and oppression. Next to the image was a quote falsely attributed to French philosopher Voltaire: “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”
The real source of the often-misattributed line is Kevin Strom, an American neo-Nazi, Holocaust denier and white supremacist who, in 2008, was convicted on child pornography charges.

Pretty good read, I highly suggest it.unfortunately, “spectacle” is now the best way to describe Portland’s protests. Btw the author of this piece is E.D. Mondainé, president of the Portland, Ore., branch of the NAACP.

It’s now about the heart, soul and pillars of American rights, and absolutely a push back against authoritarian rule. Portland has always tended to be a tinderbox where a good old fashion protest is apt to switch to something uglier at the drop of a police baton. I think what is happening, and is happening in Portland is counterproductive for everyone. At the same time, who is the first to back down? That’s always the question right.

Because of my strong focus on the China Virus, including scheduled meetings on Vaccines, our economy and much else, I won’t be able to be in New York to throw out the opening pitch for the @Yankees on August 15th. We will make it later in the season!
Multiple Philadelphia police cars were set on fire across the city overnight. Now investigators are trying to figure out who set those fires.
Eyewitness News was outside the University City Police District offices at 40th and Chestnut Streets, where one police car there was set on fire. Officers on the scene say someone tried to set the front of the cop car on fire.
Another police vehicle was set on fire, not far from there, at 39th Street and Lancaster Avenue. This happened outside of the 16th District station. The damage to that vehicle is minor.
Two other police vehicles were set on fire closer to Center City. One was in Chinatown in the 6th District and the other in Old City at 7th and Chestnut Streets.

I totally get that the history told to our children is whitewashed and excludes many of the indecencies white people committed on native americans and africans. This needs to end and a more accurate version of history should be the focus. But how do we go from that to the date of the founding of the country being the first imported slave? I say imported because Europeans had already used native americans as slaves. Seems like not the best measure of the date of the founding. I'm interested in the curriculum because it probably has some great stuff, but they will lose a lot of people with the 1619 thing, I think. I don't think it's the first important thing europeans did here.
I also think we need a civics class because we can't have a functioning democracy if people don't know how it's supposed to work, but I digress.

Police have described the suspect as a white male wearing a flannel, backpack, and bandana. He is also said to have been riding a white Cannondale bicycle.
