Exactly, in retrospect most people, including many of his supporters, will share sentiments along the lines of "duh, his goose was cooked once COVID reared its ugly head."

I hope you guys are right and I agree that if anything candidates do or say matters even a little bit, we should have the most decisive presidential race of all time. I just don’t think anything these people do matters to most voters anymore so I’ll be on the edge of my seat on election night.

I think that's the thing though - the fact that all of this shit is happening and Trump's reelection isn't completely out of the question is a scary commentary on the U.S. right now.

He served in the military and is a Harvard Law grad. Of course he knows what it means.

I think the gap of his popularity may not appear to be widening looking at the approval numbers, but some of the state polling is interesting. He disapproval rating per 538 dipped below 50% at the end of March / early April because he got a COVID-19 bump. It's fluctuated between 5% of his low of 37% at the end of 2017. And it's impossible to try to analyze this on any scale that isn't sliding or extremely skewed one way or the other. I feel like it's more gut reaction based on the news of the day and when it comes to deciding on the next four years, people on the fence think about having to deal with his shit for another four years.

I will say I am somewhat encouraged by Biden's polling in Arizona. I am hopeful 2020 is a continuation of 2018.

Oh yeah it’s nuts. Just saying as people are being pessimistic I can also see the hindside bias coming. There’s a pretty clear path here.

Yes, we are all living in Newt Gingrich's hellscape. That asshole is more responsible than any other living human being for the state of current affairs.

PSUsarge wrote:Can someone ELI5 the logic that this past weekends helps Trump?

I see why it can help the GOP in local elections, but he can't scream LAW AND ORDER while literally holding the highest office in a nation during the most lawless period of my lifetime, can he? There is literally evidence right in front of our faces that he has no vested interest in actually taking control.

My FB feed is full of posts from my lifelong friends and former colleagues. All boomers, 98% white suburban types.

I now get why youse kids are so frustrated with boomers. All of my 'friends' who support Trump are racists. They don't use the n word (in public) and they likely don't regard themselves as racists, but they have no clue of how being white made their lives easier. "I got nothing against black people as long as they obey the law and work hard like I do."

One of my 'friends' got a new dog and named it Trump. I rarely make any political commentary on FB but I do rag her about Trump. Her own daughter scoffed at the name; I suggested it was ok because "He poops everywhere, never stops yapping, makes messes for others to clean up, barks at things he can't understand, thinks the world revolves around himself, has no knowledge of science or history or geography, has no impulse control."

A woman married to a former colleague piped in "Can't wait to see you try & do a better job. Another keyboard warrior."

"Keyboard warrior" seems to be the fashionable term to scorn folks who don't love Trump.

Logic does not apply with these simpletons.

Military police deployed in Lafayette Park with the secret service and they are slowly advancing on the protesters. A few steps at a time. Why?
