I loved my Roos. A while back I found a picture online of the ones I had as a kid. Should've saved it because now I can't find it.

I think my tolerance for the heat has changed since being home and not in freezing cold central air all the time. I'll sit and work by the pool while the kids are in there and feel great in the shade, even on days like we've had the last few days. It helps it hasn't been really humid too

Please write a will while you're still able. My FIL died a year and a half ago and we are still dealing with the repercussions of his not having a will. We are still finding accounts with random amounts of money in them. His huge sum of money that came from my wife's grandfather went to my wife's stepmom, who also didn't have a will and died in May. Her sister is entitled to the house, that money, everything. Luckily the sister and her husband have been great and already signed paperwork allowing the money to come our way, but there has to be situations every day where that doesn't happen

yep, great advice. i know of many sticky situations like that which didn't work out very well. My mom's mother died before her second husband, who died about a year later- his son got everything, and my mom and her siblings got nothing. also know of another situation sort of in reverse- a guy i know would've gotten millions. his aunt's husband died with no will, which should've left the $ to his aunt (who had a will, of whom he was the beneficiary). But the aunt died like 4 days later, and there's something like a 7 day rule, so instead of the husband's money going to her and to my buddy, it went to probate and went to his next of kin by blood, which was like nieces and nephews he (the dead guy) hadn't seen in decades.

also, it's especially important in this day and age to document your accounts. In the "old days", you would just watch the deceased's mail for statements and stuff like that, but with everything electronic these days, that usually won't happen. When I took over my mom's finances, due to her dementia she really had no idea what was where, but by monitoring the mail I figured it all out.

I recently got this book which guides you into filling in all of your account info and such. maybe i'll actually get around to filling it out! prime example- my robinhood account. if i got hit by a bus tomorrow, nobody would think to look there for funds.

Just found a random joint account today with $12k in it that FIL and stepmom shared. You're exactly right, we've been collecting mail for a while and haven't seen anything regarding these accounts. I think I would estimate the amount of accounts we've found since this started is at around 10, with no rhyme or reason to them
