Fucking Delco

We just had our Head of School meeting for the end of the week. The 9th graders are actually back in school and were at the meeting and the other 600 or so students from grades 6,7,8,10, and 11 were using Teams to watch the meeting.Almost all the faculty was also at the meeting or watching on Teams.

At the end of the meeting, one teacher got there on Teams just as the meeting was ending. He entered the meeting and didn't realize his microphone was on. His exact words were, "I'm so fucking sick of this shit. I didn't get the fucking email until 3:13." Then you could hear the Head of School saying, "xxxx, your mic is on. Turn off your mic, xxxx."

Classic. Dropped 2 f-bombs and a shit in two sentences. And it was broadcast into the auditorium and into student homes all over China. After it happened, he just posted that he was "sweating bullets," and sent that gif of Homer backing into the bushes.

I am going to move that screwup into my top 3 favorite moments of the school year.

1. On a hike in the mountains outside Beijing with 40 chinese students and they broke into a pretty decent rendition of Bob Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" as we walked the trail. Completely unexpected and out of nowhere. At least half the students knew all the words.

2. Today's swearing in front of 1000 people.

3. One of the students who is a bit of a troubled kid asked to have a Zoology activity in my classroom. Then he held classes on the animals for the 2nd graders. The first day he did it, I was amazed how good he was with the kids. Totally the opposite of how he's normally viewed. Made me glad I rearranged my whole room to make room for his snakes, lizards, spiders, turtles, and scorpions.

Nope, the main guys singing knew the whole thing. I don't even know the whole thing. Some students didn't seem to know it all. The whole thing was out of nowhere.

I think it comes from the term "Blue Water Navy." A blue water navy is one that can operate globally. To operate globally means traveling the ocean(s). So since West Virginia is not connected to an ocean, it is then a stranger to "blue water."
