Some jurisdictions in Virginia “are becoming more like California and New York,” Delegate Dave LaRock told a reporter for the Winchester Star last week. The delegate—who represents a district that encompasses parts of Frederick, Loudoun, and Clarke counties—went on to say that “he could get behind a move to have more liberal jurisdictions such as Arlington and Alexandria become part of Washington, D.C.,” per the Winchester Star.

So this idea of swapping out politically different counties is really pretty crazy. To be fair, his plan would need to cut farther out if he is looking for boundaries of political difference, and slice a huge portion of the commonwealth's tax income into the ash heap. Over 3M people live in what is though of as Northern Virginia, and his proposal would/should effect at least 2M of these residents (something between 23% and 35% of the states population). He also is pretty ignorant about where the money comes from in this state supporting the nice, new, and rather empty high ways in the south west of the state. This pol represents the same area that I pulled up as targeting a move to West Virginia.

What's it all about? Gunz.

The idiocy is amazing. WV is losing population, and is last in pretty much everything. And these people want to go there.

but don't forget that us northerners that are the root of his ire put billions into the state's coffers. Like everywhere that has this city-rural issue there are always disputes about why the money is not spent locally, or is at best disproportional to contribution. NVA tried to make peace with this by proposing that income sharing would be palatable if there could be a local tax that would remain to deal with local infrastructure problems like super highways and the DC metro, etc. Imagine how the other parts of the state howl about a local train service that "they pay for" for the NVA residents. We were willing to pay more if we could keep it to fund local infrastructure needs (i.e., pay VDOT to fix heavily traveled roads, fund VAs part of metro, etc.). Alas, that tax proposal was disposed of as illegal, compounded by the idea that the rest of the state was not going to raise taxes, etc. That is that it is not legal for a separate shadow tax system to raise funds in and for a specific part of the state for what is definitionally state business.

It's also an idiocy

There's a reason why libertarians are overwhelming white men. The philosophy requires you to ignore systemic social injustices and thousands of years of evidence that, when left to their own devices, people in power abuse those below them.

Is it worse to be a Russian Asset or simply an American Ass?

In an incredible exchange at Davos, @realDonaldTrump admits he is comfortable with the status of the impeachment trial because the White House is withholding evidence. "Honestly, we have all the material. They don't have the material." As always, he says the quiet part out loud.

Dems should play this clip on a loop during the trial.

The president also told reporters he would embrace testifying at his own impeachment trial but is unlikely to do so at the behest of his legal team.

"I'd love to go, wouldn't that be great?" Trump said. "Wouldn't that be beautiful? I'd love to sit right in the front row and stare in their corrupt faces. I'd love to do it."

Too bad his team would never allow it.

Caught a few minutes of the trial, what a well rehearsed, multimedia retelling of the facts as a radio drama (it was on the new station while I was driving). Voices of various players used to drive home the facts, El Trumpo tripping over his own words, etc. Too bad this is not about facts.

Yes, it’s a surprisingly well-produced multimedia effort. Schiff is not exactly Mr. Excitement but it’s well done.

Apparently a bunch of Rs just are not in the chamber despite the rules saying they have to be. It must be very hard to have to sit down and stay awake. Can't imagine what they are going through.

What, those senators are not interested, already have their vote ready to be cast, and generally don't care. I am shocked. What is the penalty for leaving work early? Turtle isn't even going to acknowledge it I am sure.

Speaker Turzai is taking a new job and will leave the State House. The new job of course is with a gas company. Good bye.

I am a white male. I find it fascinating when self described libertarians align themselves with authoritarianism. Causes you to look around a bit, you know?
