to tell you the truth i was expecting a bit of silver. but none yet. a few foreign coins, a buch of arcade/batting cage tokens. But not one piece of silver yet.

Guess I don't use cash enough to imagine accumulating that much.

Great book!

My grandma and mom's sister also share a birthday on 11/22. My mom's parents' retirement home was the stereotypical Irish Catholic abode with a bust of JFK and a picture of JP2. November 22nd was always a big day growing up.

barreled headlong into a full glass storm door on a narcan call last night

now i know what dogs feel like

(in my defense, there's a 100W floodlight above the door pointing straight at oncomers, while the hallway behind the door was unlighted)

Constantly amazed at the ineptness of the deli at my local Acme. Must be 3 or 4 different people now who seem to have no idea how fractions work.

Me: "I'll have a third of a pound of prosciutto."

*Deli employee starts, seems to be doing too much, puts it up on the scale, scale reads 0.59*

Me: Oh, I only want a third of a pound, that's too much.

Him: "Yeah, third of a pound..."

Me, frozen: Uh, that's too much, a third of a pound.

Other deli employee says something, he takes some off, gets it down to .345 on the scale.

WTF, is this that hard? Is it weird to say a quarter of a pound or a third of a pound? I never thought it was but apparently it is. This has happened numerous times now with multiple employees. I guess the Roxborough Acme isn't the creme de la creme of deli employees, but sheesh.

Maybe they don't teach fractions in "new math"

Oven in our apartment is so old and not great. Slightly burned parts of the bread I was making and I am upset! Didn't even leave it in that long. :(

cfp please don't tell me you're one of those that orders 1/4 and 1/3 pound of like a half a dozen meats and cheeses at the deli.

deli rule, nothing under a 1/2. go big or go home.

Was at a particularly tragic funeral today. As my son and I waited in the reviewing line someone we know soon both our hands then hugged the woman behind us. After the service here sauntered over and said that he left his glasses at home and mistakenly hugged someone he thought was my wife (who was not in attendence).

Maybe my mom is weird and I learned from her. Would have thought they'd have heard of a third of a pound at some point though. As for the 1/2 or 1 lb. rule AZ, it was prosciutto so it's a bit pricey ($15/lb. I think). Was for a recipe, just wanted a bit over a quarter (which is what the recipe calls for) to have a couple slices to snack on. And no, I do not order multiples like that, I barely order deli meats and cheeses anymore unless I'm desperate.

1/3 of a pound is my go to for low-moisture or minor ingredient items.

I used to work at a deli. 1/3 lb was not uncommon.
