I get an email at least twice a week from my apartment that one of the four elevators in the building is broken. I feel like keeping an elevator working for more than a week at a time shouldn't be that hard.

I watched a chick flick with my wife years ago where the guy who invented the elevator somehow was magically transported to present day NYC (or some big city) where he fell in love with someone. Anyway, once he transported to current day, all of the eleveators stopped working because he time traveled before he invented it. It really stuck with me all these years later because that is a really strange premise for a movie.

You'd also think someone else (or many people) would've invented the elevator had he hadn't. It wasn't exactly like Einstein coming up with the Theory of Special Relativity.

Exactly! And I think it was even more obscure than just he invented the elevator, it was like he discovered the physics that make elevators work. Someone else would've figured that out eventually!

It was from 2001, Kate and Leopold was the name, starring Meg Ryan as a plucky NY advertising executive and Hugh Jackman as an English duke from 1876 who is inadvertantly time traveled to 2001! Hilarity ensues as they fall for one another. Jackman was nominated for a golden globe for this somehow and sting won an gg for best original song. Also co-starred Breckin Meyer and Natasha Lyone for the full early 2000's movie bingo experience.

Oh no!

Closing May 1st because people have died climbing the falls. I'm going there next weekend. I recently climbed a waterfall on a hike this past fall, right up the waters edge. This is probably where I'm gonna die

I would suspect someone, or several some people are living in the elevator cars.

First, if one of four elevators is routinely broken in a building, I would avoid riding any of them.

Second, how exactly do you close a hiking trail? They can't fence the whole thing off. Grab a compass, orienteer your self a few hundred yards past the trail head, and hike your brains out. I suppose after awhile the lack of maintenance might be an issue.

in the late 1960's carpet bombing was used for this sort of purpose and has continued to this day with mixed results.
