Yeah, I don't like AOC and think she tweets a lot of stupid stuff, but I'm not seeing what's bad about this one.

It is a messaging problem. Where her point is fair there is no sympathy expressed. I do not have a handy list of these things, but 49 is a huge number. For instance my first though was sympathy for the families, and citizens of New Zealand. This is a tragedy driven by hate and perpetrated first against faithful people, but secondly against the citizens of New Zealand is incomprehensible to that nation, and it is heart achingly sad that we need add to the roles of nations that have experienced mass shootings.

The next tweet can drive to root cause. If that is the second tweet, omitting the 1st thought part, I would find it more acceptable.

I glanced at her tweets and see that her first jump into the topic is what JH posted, then the next is to defend the 'thoughts and prayers' as sticking it in the eye of the NRA.

(“Thoughts and prayers” is reference to the NRA’s phrase used to deflect conversation away from policy change during tragedies. Not directed to PM Ardern, who I greatly admire.)

49 people murdered while praying, singled out by bigots because of the god they were praying to, and her initial reaction is "What good are your thoughts and prayers" trying to take a swing at the NRA when the shooting happened in New Zealand?

Your first post after the tragedy did not offer any kind of thought or prayer for victims.

While I get what you are saying conceptually, there are a few important things to take from this. The most important was her personalizing the attack. This isn't about "them" not being safe, it's about "you" not being safe. I feel there is a strong message there, whether she did it deliberately or not. Second, she isn't in a position where she needs to mention a "thoughts and prayers" type of comment. That's what the president is supposed to do. She is supposed to be outraged and frustrated. That's why the 15000 or so people who elected her, elected her.

Your ratio of useful to useless posts are reaching an all time high (or low).

Useful attack FFS.

There’s irony in a dude going after AOC in this way when his reaction was essentially the same.

But yes let’s fight over how people react instead of focus on the fact that the US is essentially an exporter of terrorism.

Trump thinks Islam hates Americans so should I attack his bullshit tweet today where he provided prayers and sympathies?

Another appropriate response I’m sure

The problem with her tweet is that her ideas about governance represent a genuine threat to the current republican ideology. If her ideas take hold, their party will crumble. If any other junior congressperson had said what she said, nobody would have said boo or even noticed, but AOC said it and they have their claws out for her at all times because of what she represents.

Republicans have become cowards and that's the problem. They stoke fear in their gutless followers at all times. It's what they do. AOC is a socialist! She wants to take all your guns! She's attacking your desire to pray! Be afraid of the woman! Be afraid! Meanwhile, their cult leader attacks another pillar of democracy and undermines our allies and they say nothing. They don't care about the victims of these crimes. If they did, they wouldn't waste time splitting hairs about an AOC tweet.

Not every post is about you.

It's too bad your party doesn't have your message board courage. I mean, we'd really have something.... the beginnings of a return to sanity, maybe.

You, of course, have nothing to lose by criticizing your monster and chief. You party representatives, however, are too afraid of him to do anything, or they're equally as evil. Hard to tell which it is with most of them.
