I have an i7 that is probably 6 years old. Still runs like a champ with Win10. Only upgrades I've done we're hard drives and a 1050ti. Dual boot with Win10 and OSX. Will probably swap out the ram in the next few months. All of my games run great. Nvidia puts out driver's pretty much every time a major game gets patched or released.

oh, don't get me wrong- my i7 still runs spectacularly. as long as you don't mind power resetting twice a day! But if my options are wiping and re-installing this hardware and starting fresh with an i9, i'd go with the latter.

btw, kind of shady for intel to remove hyperthreading from all but the top-of-the-line procs in each gen nowadays. my i7 has HT and being quad core it runs 8 threads. the 9th gen i7 is 6 core but no h/t so it's stuck at 6 threads. in a normal multiprocessing environment I probably get better performance out of my i7 than a current gen i7. the i9 is 8 cores with h/t for a whopping 16 threads. so my pc can hang 10 times as fast!!
