where's a good place for cheap suits these days? Prolly need somewhere that does alterations. Need one for me and one for the kid. Mine will get worn maybe twice a year. His may only ever be worn once. Syms was awesome, but long gone.

Jos Bank sometimes has buy one get one half off--that might work. They have some less expensive suits. I've actually done well enough at Men's Wearhouse as well.

Just checked the Jos A Bank website--they have a "blowout sale" and they're at least teasing $89 suits. I probably wouldn't go cheaper than that.

How do you know you'll never need to buy another?

That would help explain why the guy has such strong feelings after all these years. They probably yelled at him to get off their lawn.

boscov's ftw

i don't buy suits often enough that "separates" in the normal way to buy. a suit for each of us, a shirt & tie for him, and eagles shirt for him for his school's thing tomorrow....like $288 after getting 15% off for opening a boscov's charge (which, incidentally, i had until like 2 months again until they terminated it due to lack of usage :) )

Bought my last suit in 2003 at Men's Wearhouse for my wedding rehearsal. Still fits and still looks good.

I actually got the oldest a suit for his confirmation at Target - it still fits, he's 16, 6', about 180. But, it is a slim cut, so I think it's a "large" to fit his tall skinny frame.

Check out dry cleaners for alterations.

Edit - late to the game, but I'll leave for reference, and keep Boscov's in mind for the next two.

Got a nice, name brand (I forget the name) suit from Amazon for my daughter's bar mitzvah a couple years ago pretty inexpensively. Went to a tailor/dry cleaner for alterations.

Not to be stereotypical, but the tailor is an older Asian lady who did great work at a reasonable price. She helped me out with a Homecoming dress emergency my daughter was having once while my wife was out of town. I will be forever loyal and grateful to her.

I also accidentally dropped my pants in front of her once while I was paying for alterations. Not my proudest moment.

My waist is wide and my legs are short so every time that I buy a pair of pants I need to get them altered (which is why I go to the tailor so often).
