Politics: Promises Made, Hush Money Paid

Wow. Saw some of Trumps “Christmas address”... or more appropriately his airing of grievences... all I can do is shake my head. Feds told him to keep the government closed??? F that, it’s a lie unless he hand picked his feds to talk to. Also using the time to mash people in the spirit of the holiday, etc. Sad stuff.

I don’t really understand the thirst to say this does not matter because they will get paid. The service workers, restaurant staff, transportation sector, general retail, tourism, etc. get pounded as well. Contractors got smarter with the way contracts are written, but there will be plenty who will not.

Pompeo let Mattis know his time is up, not Trump. I am disappointed that Mad Dog did not say STFU Mikey, I work for the boss, not state.

how about we focus on the irresponsibility of paying government workers for staying home and doing nothing. That's our tax dollars he's wasting. <just in case it's not obvious, that's absolutely no criticism of the workers themselves>

“Nothing will overcome the loss of Senator McCain, but so that generations remember him I will be introducing a resolution to rename the Russell building after him,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, New York Democrat, said on Twitter just after McCain’s office announced his death.

Four months later, the resolution was never introduced.

Mr. Schumer’s spokesman clammed up when asked what happened.

Good job Chuck! Maybe he prefers to keep the racist Democrat moniker over flipping it to a Republican.

The general damage to the DC economy is always under reported. I'd imagine the timing of this will be especially significant. Good thing bribery and emoluments will keep the Trump hotel sold out.

So when the dems take the house I’m thinking they will reopen the govt with a bipartisan spending bill without any wall money....with the promise that an immigrant reform bill will be the priority for early 2019. Then if trump wants to make a deal he can have all the money he wants for the wall
I would rather see you lose than win myself

I was curious about how Trump's 3 shutdowns in 2 years stacked up. There are some interesting items:

Reagan had 8! for 14 days.

Carter had 5 for 57, 28 of those were in 1977.

Clinton only had 1, but it was the last Christmas massacre lasting 21 days bridging December - January (then the DC region got smacked with a blizzard that put the workforce out longer).

I'd think that Trump will want to stay under the 16 days that were served up to Obama in 2013.

I'd give a few bucks for a wall in exchange for DACA and a bunch of other stuff.

Good compromise.

If you would die walking through desert to get to a wall you don't need a wall.

Last I saw 2.5 bill v 1.3 from Dems

In general the Dems have done pretty well on these settlements.

What does $5 billion buy? According to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a supporter of this wall, this money would pay for 215 miles of fencing. The land border is 1,954-miles long, and about 700 miles of fencing already exists and is located primarily in border towns and other high-traffic zones. Unfenced areas of the border are in remote regions with much less traffic.

The daughters of a Queens foot doctor say their late father diagnosed President Donald Trump with bone spurs to help him avoid the Vietnam War draft as a "favor" to his father Fred Trump, according to a new report Wednesday.

The Trump administration is asking federal courts to pause several high-profile immigration-related lawsuits due to the shutdown over border wall funding.

The Justice Department on Wednesday also cited the lapse in federal funding in a key lawsuit regarding payments to Trump businesses.

The 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals granted the request to suspend the briefing schedule related to a lawsuit brought by Maryland and Washington, DC, attorneys general against President Donald Trump over proceeds from the Trump International Hotel.

Government is going to be closed for a long time folks. More from CNN

“Have the Democrats finally realized that we desperately need Border Security and a Wall on the Southern Border. Need to stop Drugs, Human Trafficking, Gang Members & Criminals from coming into our Country. Do the Dems realize that most of the people not getting paid are Democrats?"

How does congress reconcile that last bit? Be Best? Seems like he is targeting American workers.

They already believe us government workers are mooches and lazy and aren't even needed. Why would they care that he agrees with them?
