as far as AOC goes, she is aligning herself with the movement. that movement brings votes and power. Pelosi has thus far played it right and can use it to her advantage to keep get her second speakership since she can point to the goon that will likely run against her to the right of her.
it's win-win; attention has been made to what the committee will actually do and who will actually be on it (no half-measure types on it, please) and you create a bloc within your party that you use as a cudgel over the speaker to push your policy ideas to the forefront and she keeps power.
or, I guess AOC could be like Al Franken and wait two terms to do anything and then get caught in a scandal. these are weighty times and normal politics is not a thing anymore. you use your platform of you lose your platform.

So I think I'd disagree that you wouldn't want half measures types on a climate change committee if you're looking for legislative solutions to address climate change. If your goal is to pass something out of committee that looks bold and dies before getting a floor vote, fine. But any sort of major climate change legislation that goes through Congress will need substantial GOP support as long as the GOP holds the Senate and White House. That's probably a pipe dream, fine, but even if Democrats take the Senate and WH in 2020, you're still going to need buy in from half measures Democrats because any Dem Senate majority will be narrow at best (and this presumes they get rid of the legislative filibuster, which I wouldn't bet on, so still need GOP votes). You're going to need people interested in the give and take.

Again, I don't really understand this. What purpose does this protest serve? Do they want an effective speaker or not? But my real complaint is with a supposed Democrat elected to Congress protesting a fellow Democrat. Like it or not, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, you are in the establishment now. Learn to make the deal to get what you want. If you want to maintain your street cred, do something useful and stop NY State from giving away the farm to Amazon. Direct action there might actually do some good.

Imagine if NFL team was trailing 24-22 but in final seconds hits a 3 pt kick to win. Then AFTER game lawyers for losing team get a judge to order rules changed so that last second field goals are only 1 point
Well that’s how democrat lawyers plan to steal #Florida election 1/4
