I held off telling her that I have never believed that the social contract would be there for me, so I planned my way around that social program. On a previous episode she tried to argue that it is not a social program, its not socialism, and America is not nor will it ever be socialist. Her point, she paid for this in advance (she has been drawing for almost 20 years, so she has definitely gotten more then she gave, especially with most of her earning years being at the Dollar General), and that the government took all that money for other things or it would be over funded.

The government has borrowed over $2.8 trillion from the trust fund.

Do the math for her one day. “You worked x years and made y at your peak. You’ve gotten z every month for 20+ years.” Write it out. Show her how much she got out relative to how much she paid in.

does social security mail out those statement every year any more? I can't recall getting one in the past several years. Show your lifetime incomes and what you paid in to SS.

They stopped mailing them out several years ago to anyone under 60. The same statement is available online. You need to sign up for a mySocialSecurity account at socialsecurity.gov.

FYI - in most states you can now request replacement Social Security cards online through the same account.

social security is a wealth transfer from people paying in to current retired seniors and disabled people unable to work. SOCIALISM!

CNN is crazy with this, hyping just about every little data point that comes in but it's probably the only time I'll watch it. I'd probably watch PBS if it weren't for that dope David Brooks they keep bringing on.

On the other hand, the 538 real time house forecast projects a 40 seat Democratic win in the House.
