I wouldn’t underestimate Grassley and McConnell. If they knew any way to get anyone else through before the mid-terms they’d do it, but they’re stuck with Kavanaugh which is, by the way, they’re so pissed at the 11th-hour nature of the accusations being made public.

How quickly does McConnell smash the button to vote? Tomorrow I assume. There is no reason to think that he will be sympathetic at all.

Why the obsession with getting it done by the midterms?
1. Politizing an open Supreme Court seat to drive voters to the polls in 2016 worked very well for them. Why wouldn't it in 2018?
2. Even in the unlikely scenario where they lose control of the Senate they can still confirm their pick during the lame duck session.
