well it is us against the world in his words, so why not. Announcing tariffs, rejecting the ICC, rejecting ITO, etc. Another burn it to the ground speech that moves us farther off the world stage, but his base will dig it until they cannot afford necessities and turn to bail outs. He did give a shout out to The Monroe Doctrine, not that I think he knows much about it.

Article:

Line 1: Growth in gross domestic product is an obviously flawed measure of a president’s economic record.
Line 2: Presidents often inherit good times or bad times from their predecessors, events entirely outside a president’s control can push growth up or down, and the most consequential presidential economic decisions often prove consequential only years after that president has left office.

Breakdown:

- GDP not a great way to measure economic success.
- Obama started with a downward spiral that he had to course correct, and Trump inherited an improving economy (wake me when Trumps actual protectionist policies start to hammer the economy which GDP will not impact on families)

Even if agree that the economy has been better under Trump, what has been the cost? Less regulations that protect workers, consumers and the environment? A continued transfer of wealth from the poor and middle classes to the top 1%? A tax bill that will necessitate the cutting of Social Security and Medicare in the not too distant future? Yes the economy may be humming along now but I fear what it will look like in 5-10 years.

Trump’s UN speech: his administration has accomplished more than "almost any administration in the history of our country." There is some laughter in the hall. "So true," he says. The laughter gets louder. "Didn't expect that reaction," Trump says.

@realDonaldTrump

We need a President who isn't a laughing stock to the entire World. We need a truly great leader, a genius at strategy and winning. Respect!

There's a tweet for that, although his reference was not to the world literally laughing at a president... I man like today, the laughing, so much laughing...

Avenatti told reporters he has been hired by a former employee of both the State Department and the U.S. Mint who has information of a sexual nature about Kavanaugh and his high school friend Mark Judge.

“It will relate to how they behaved at countless house parties,’’ Avenatti said.

Avenatti also told reporters the woman, whom he did not name, has multiple security clearances and will “literally risk her life’’ by coming forward. He called her “100 percent credible,’’ saying she has multiple witnesses to corroborate her story and would be willing to take a polygraph if Kavanaugh does as we

Well her credibility might take a small hit because she picked Avenatti. The circus is coming to town.

The other log on the fire is:

James Roche, Kavanaugh’s roommate in Fall 1983, said in a statement posted on Twitter that they didn’t socialize together much, but would chat at night after Kavanaugh would return from outings with his friends.

“It is from this experience that I concluded that although Brett was normally reserved, he was a notably heavy drinker, even by the standards of the time, and that he became aggressive and belligerent when he was very drunk,” Roche said.

Why was outside counsel be used to question Dr. Ford? I know that they hired a female lawyer to do it, but I had assumed that there was some protocol where the senators actually ran the show. How messed up will it be if the female outside counsel asked super nasty questions like the president has put forward.

It lets the R senators off the hook. Anything goes wrong, they blame it on the lawyer. It’s all just for show anyway. They have no interest in finding out what, if anything, really happened. Do the show, have the vote, move on.

I'm a little worried that this 3rd woman is some kind of plant. If it turns out she made this horrible stuff up, she would instantly discredit the other two by association. And she would take Stormy's lawyer down with her, so she would serve two purposes for the hard right. I mean, the level of her accusations are almost hard to believe.

But if she is telling the truth, our next supreme court justice is some kind of monster, especially when you consider how he will likely vote on economic and social issues.

8 to 5 the Pubs set it all up to discredit the accusers. Embarrassing Avenatti is icing on the cake.

Tomi Lahren can be both an idiot, but occasionally be factually correct. The economic recovery under Obama was slower than most recoveries, and the gdp growth under Trump has been higher. I was responding to your comment about quantifiable and extraordinary. The us economic recovery following 2009 was unimpressive, in comparison to most recoveries. I made no comment about the impact of a president to affect economic growth. Trump is actively hurting growth through protection and other policies, and "his" growth is still higher than other presidents because his term has not yet included a recession.

It’s worth remembering that the Pubs spent 8 years doing everything they could to prevent Obama from achieving any initiative which might reflect well on him including making sure that the stimulus package was as weak as possible. So it’s not surprising that the recovery was weaker than usual since the right was only too happy to sacrifice ordinary Americans’ well being on the altar of politics.

I remember posting way too much about Austrian economics, the rights of States to secede, and Obama's complete disregard of bankrupcy law re: General Motors at this time. I have no plans to repeat those arguments; the conversation has shifted from fact to opinion...
