Everyone wants to classify everything as a "mental health issue" so it absolves people of responsibility for their own actions.

She did her job well. I blame Jake (or anyone else) for not pointing out that the concepts of keeping crazies away from AR-15’s and making AR-15’s generally less accessible are not mutually exclusive.

If her job was to never answer anything and get across the idea that only crazy people use guns to kill people then sure, I guess.

Pretty sure people don't buy that but hey

Ar15 is getting a bad rap, it has a lot of company, and these all need attention.

Her job as a representative of the NRA was to deflect the discussion away from the regulation of guns to other problems such as mental illness and inadequate police work. She did that job well, especially in a hostile environment.

If anyone expects the NRA to simply concede on the issue of further gun regulation you don’t understand and appreciate the concepts of free speech and democracy and the problem is not with the NRA but with your expectations. Unless and until enough citizens force a change at the ballot box and/or through a Constitutional amendment there will be no change.

She came off as defensive and overall pretty confrontational. If anything, she motivated those kids and adults in that arena to keep fighting because she showed them that the NRA has no intention of backing down.

One thing that pleased me tonight was the amount of people tonight that called for the banning of assault weapons. That's going to be the biggest fight and I think we need more politicians to have the courage to say it publicly. Democrats sometimes look for things they can get done as opposed to things that should get done so they try not overplay their hand. This is one issue where they should not settle.

Yet July is correct, she shifted a lot of blame. Was she stellar? No, but she spun like a top. Great acting on her part.

If guns are not a problem, why did the NRA put together a plan to defend schools from the threat of guns? Sure, most places cannot affordable it, but they could take the recommendations.

I think Dana was pretty irrelevant. The crowd stopped listening to her midway thru.

Also, this is the NRA's view on background checks, which was totally different from the talking points Dana was spewing tonight.

One more thing: I cringed every time the sheriff kept saying that the govt should give the police the power to pull people out of their homes and put them in mental institutions. Nope.

Especially when he emphasized it would be done “involuntarily.”
