I would guess we won't get many Republicans to talk about this:

"As a result of the trade situation, we will be initiating pricing actions, which will be sent under separate cover shortly," LG executive Thomas Yoon said in a memo obtained by CNNMoney. The note was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. An LG spokesman declined to comment as to how much more expensive the appliances will get, or on the timing of the price hike. But consumers should be prepared for prices to go up by 15% to 20%, said Dinesh Kithany, a smart home and appliances analyst with IHS Markit. That could translate to washing machines that are $70 to $100 more expensive, he said.

the other is the 30% tariff just enacted on solar panels. (Drops to 15% at some point, not sure when). There are 260,000 solar energy jobs in the U.S. RIght now, only 2,000 are related to the actual building of solar panels. The rest are design, implementation, installation, etc.

So while I'm sure it will help the U.S. manufacturing sector a bit, we should probably expect the number of solar projects to nosedive due to the new costs involved, so all these installers, etc., will likely face hard times. Maybe they can go back to the coal mines...

Drops 5% per year. Can probably expect installs to cost 10-15% more, at least in the first year. Not great!

The Justice Department's inspector general has informed lawmakers that a trove of missing text messages exchanged between FBI employees has been recovered.

A lot of the big panel producers have already been subject to higher anti-dumping and countervailing duties from Commerce for a long time. I'm not sure how much the practical impact will be

More worried that this is the first of many such dumb tariffs

The Trumps asked to borrow a Van Gogh for the White House. The Guggenheim offered an 18K gold toilet instead.

The driver is that it is good for US exports, on the basic level praising your weakening currency as the Treasury Secretary seems like a lousy idea. Immediately after this praise, the dollar fell some more.

Not too long ago President Trump said he prefers a strong U.S. dollar and said comments by his Treasury secretary praising a weak dollar were taken out of context.

Trump has previously said he prefers a weak dollar for its benefits to trade, telling The Wall Street Journal in April he feared the dollar was “getting too strong.”

Trump on Thursday said he doesn’t think anyone should make commentary on the value of the dollar.

“I don’t like talking about it because, frankly, no one should be talking about it. It should be what it is. It should also be based on the strength of the country.”

Judge for yourself:

The value of the dollar hit a three-year low Wednesday after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said "obviously a weaker dollar is good for us as it relates to trade and opportunities.”

"Longer-term, the strength of the dollar is a reflection of the strength of the U.S. economy and the fact that it is and will continue to be the primary currency in terms of the reserve currency," Mnuchin continued.

It is a bummer that the Obamas had this pretty incredible relationship and that's not even something the party of family values could embrace. Instead they elected this lump.

The party of family values has been murdered off for the party of getting whatever they think they want. Check in with leading evangelicals, especially those with radio and television presences.

The secret society seems to be a joke in a context of holiday calendars with a shirtless Putin on them that were being given to the Russia Probe team as a gag gift for the holidays.

Good job Ron Johnson! Way to get out in front of this tragedy. What is in the water in Wisconsin?

Stephen Miller, since Trump doesn't understand immigration or anything really, is the less voice (maybe the only?) on the WH's policy. If that wasn't clear before, it should be now since he is leading briefings on the subject now.
