"This is the Bannon effect in action," an ally close to Bannon said in a text minutes after Flake announced his forthcoming retirement, citing the current political environment as the primary reason behind his exit after just one term in the upper chamber.
"Never Trump Senators and allies of [Sen. Mitch] McConnell beware," the Bannon ally warned.
Flake's decision capped off "a stretch of undeniable success," as another Bannon ally put it.
"It's no coincidence that Flake officially dropped out only a week after Laura Ingraham and Steve Bannon campaigned for [pro-Trump Arizona Senate candidate] Kelli Ward," Nunberg continued. "This Bannon Movement is real."

Kyrsten Sinema will immediately become the 2nd most conservative Dem behind Manchin, but she can win. I would prefer Deedra Abboud (she's a community activist), but she'll get trounced in the primary and the attack ads against here would be insane in a general (she wears a hijab). there's also a Berniecrat named Jim Moss that will lose to Sinema in the primary.

I don't think she'd be to the right of some of the others up this term either. And I think she'd be Gillibrand-esque in floating out to the left after departing a tough House district if AZ would let her (though it won't). She's a former Nader activist who has recalibrated herself as a Blue Dog to win a swing district & position herself to run statewide. She might do some high profile defecting, but don't think she's genuinely a conservative or even moderate Dem. I don't know if that makes her better or worse in y'all's eyes.
