I think the problem with Seay's analysis is that she wants to be regarded as the expert on African policy, has a probably-justified bug up her ass about the Congressionally-unchallenged US military expansion in Africa under Obama & Bush, and has her own views about developments there.

Not at all sure Rachel implied the proximate tactical cause of the loss of the 4 soldiers was the Chadian troop withdrawal, but instead that, even as troops were being drawn back, terrorist entities were amping up attacks throughout Niger. That is, the soldiers were at greater risk because they were operating in a country becoming less secure overall as they went about their business

Seay wants to own the African narrative, fine - she hasn't made the case that drumpfian fumbling coupled with its erratic "Muslim banning" obsession did not play a role in the deaths of the american soldiers.

One of the biggest conspiracies is making people think conspiracies don't exist. Most criminal enterprises are conspiratorial. Much of politics is conspiratorial. People keep quiet about crimes all the time. The idea that you can't keep a conspiracy quiet, and therefore it doesn't exist, is hogwash. Lots and lots of people keep quiet because they don't want to go to prison.

At the very least, there was a conspiracy between some Trump underlings and members of the russian government to get Trump elected. There was also a conspiracy to cover it up.

The trick is to be able to distinguish between real and fake conspiracies.

i haven't listened to the Maddow segment but she is pretty good with her sources. i will say, i haven't read much evidence of there being a huge botch in Niger. i could be wrong if more comes out, though.

in any event, perhaps we could have 1 congressional investigation if Benghazi merited 8? Or, we could de-politicize the military. OK, we're not going to do the latter, so perhaps the former could merit a try.

they actually stole the word I use to describe Kelly- at the very BEST he is an enabler of the authoritarian agenda. Evil by any other name is still evil. My jury is still out on McMaster though. By some accounts he is attempting to influence cheetoh man in a positive manner. But in the end he's probably evil too.

she just brings up the possibility that a contributing factor was the Chad travel ban (and it is still unknown why they were added other than being out of passport paper temporarily), as they have been effective fighters against Boko Haram in Mali, Niger, and Nigeria. They pulled their troops from the region after the ban and the region has become less safe
