this is from a generally democratic-voting person regarding the supreme court, posted today on another board:

The Democratic response to the Roberts nomination may have roots in the Bush v Gore decision, but a certain point someone has to make the decision not to escalate things. Both sides manipulate their bases with emotionally charged, poorly thought out and irrational responses to everything. Every single fucking thing has to be managed so that the other side looks as bad as possible and your side looks as much like a victim as possible. It's fucking disgusting.

A both sides argument on a day where someone shot 600 people with weapons that only one side wants to protect. What a world we live in folks.

This was also after I was called a fucking idiot for saying it was inevitable for supreme court nominees to be politicized and the fact that it happened in 2005 with democrats in the opposition was just happenstance and also a large reaction to bush v gore. If we have to fight idiots like this on both sides of the aisle I think we're truly doomed.

Depending on who she was running against, maybe."

Well, that is the cost of doing business. The US has similar requirements for certain classes of software being sold to US/State Government clients. This is really a fear mongering story. Now if the question is should this software be controlled, or have a private USG branch, then that is a different story. Buying commercial save money while incurring risks.

she's likely not running for Congress again (maybe Governor) but if she votes with us 30% of the time perhaps we could get someone in there that agrees with us 80% of the time? seems pretty easy to me.

this person obviously wishes there was some mysterious no labels centrist party for FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE/SOCIALLY LIBERAL which our system frankly doesn't have or allow.
