John Podhoretz is calling out Democrats in Alabama for not voting in last night's election in order to prevent Moore from winning.

I hope he feels the same way about Republicans in the general election in December.

Who is that? I’m pretty sure it’s not NY ostrich boy (or what ever Moore’s campaign spokes person said ) John Podhoretz.

Since I mention Podhoretz, He should be fine with the idea that moore is there if he wants the Democrats to have any kind of real chances in the next cycle. One of the best things that could happen is crazy Judge Moore could be representing himself as a mainstream conservative that they cannot point to .

here's Podhoretz advocating for genocide.

"What if the tactical mistake we made in Iraq was that we didn't kill enough Sunnis in the early going to intimidate them and make them so afraid of us they would go along with anything? Wasn't the survival of Sunni men between the ages of 15 and 35 the reason there was an insurgency and the basic cause of the sectarian violence now?"

Just thinking out loud about about Roy Moore and the state of the Republican Party:

I've long said that in terms of policy, Trump is really a mainstream Republican, though he's more inept than the last Republican President in the foreign policy realm and he's not I guess a free trader. But it does seem, despite small differences in policy, the "establishment" style of Republican Party politics is about to go the way of Country Club Republicanism. So, we've gotten rid of dog whistle racism in exchange for the explicit kind, a complete rejection of reality mattering, and a world where being outrageous is considered an electoral asset, not a liability. In such a world, Roy Moore easily gets the nod over a pretty similar Luther Strange. Now, here's the thing--this may not cost the Republicans a seat in Alabama. Roy Moore isn't establishment, but he's not even Ted Cruz. He's more like Loy Mauch. I doubt any of you have heard of Loy Mauch, but he was a Republican State Rep in Arkansas who was a neo-confederate and said things like "If slavery was so awful, why didn't Jesus condemn it?" He was also a member of the White Supremacist organization The League of the South.

But here's the thing that should provide at least a sliver of solace--Mauch lost his bid for re-election. By a considerable margin. To a Democrat. Even in crazy ass parts of the South, there seem to be limits. And if the Republican primary electorate has really gone bat shit crazy, and there's no evidence that they have not, then maybe the party really is poised to become a rather marginal political force again, as it once was.

Now, I've been wrong about the demise of the Republican Party for the last ten years, but one thing I do know about medium term predictions in politics--there's almost no way to predict anything more than an election cycle out. And if you don't believe, just look at 2008 or 2016. Predicting the outcome of those elections two years prior would have gotten you laughed at. So I'm not saying anything about the Senate or the House next year. Because I really don't know, and no one else does either.

first cut at the Tax Plan explainer

Honestly, it is hard to see how this takes in only 150B$/year less. Article says 220B$ estimated. I think the hole has to be bigger without the AMT, and the reductions. At the moment the top bracket is 4.6% less, but that has me assuming they pay anything at all. There is a mystery around some of the deductions that will be taken away, and I wonder if there’s going to be some kind of hit to charitable deductions. Trump wouldn’t care about that, he never gives any money if it’s on the way anyway. It will be interesting to have an analysis of this latest trickle down plan in the coming days.

Trump just gave Congress the blueprint so he could say he did so. He left the heavy lifting and the political fallout to them.

Holy shit I'm just now reading about drumpf's planned health coverage executive order.

It seems impossible that a physician (Randy Paul) doesn't get how appallingly stupid and ineffectual cross-country border insurance sales permission is.

It seems natural that our stupidest, worst POTUS ever by any measure intends to put his filthy wretched ass name to it

So Trump Jr recently decided to get rid of his secret service detail, saying he wanted privacy. He then went on a hunting trip to a remote area in the Yukon, Canada. When he got back, he asked to have secret service protection again.

I can't help but feel like he was meeting with someone he didn't want the secret service to know about. This whole thing is like a really bad spy novel.

Is this true? Is there a source?

I knew that he had given up the SS protection but hadn't heard the rest. What an asshole.
