how does everyone feel about cultural appropriation?

saw this thing on twitter where some people call out others for using the phrase "spirit animal" and tell them to use patronous instead.

a friend on facebook regularly posts about white people getting tight braids in their hair.

it all is just so exhausting.

I thought America was a melting pot where people of all races cultures religions etc. we're welcome and we'd you know, melt together adopting things from others and phasing out of some traditions

It was sad to hear that there were seperate graduation ceremonies for those who identified as Latino for the ASU school of law and those who identified as African American at Harvard. Are we really progressing or going back in time?

We should probably take this to the political thread though. For the most part I try to stay out of trouble in the other threads.

agreed. it's also so ignorant of history and stupid like cultures haven't been melting, ebbing and flowing for hundreds of thousands of years. it's the basis of literally everything humans create. it's a bad thing when it's used to mock or degrade or oppress or deceive, etc., but 99% of the time it's just a harmless, natural confluence of energy.
