He was asked about contacts with Russians and while he in fact had contact with Russians he said he had not in fact had contact with Russians. (That he didn't answer the question "and if you did what would you do about it?" that was also asked of him will be a conversation perhaps for another day).

He - and not merely his people - has lots of explaining to do about how as a guy auditioning for top US law enforcement official he went all lawyer guy hoping not to ever have to explain why HIS contacts with Russians were not contacts with Russians that would merit him answering yes I had contacts with Russians when asked more than once if he had contacts with Russians.

Surely he informed his candidate and prospective boss of these chats with Russians, as Flynn had without compunction done? What of those conversations?

There are people who should be uncomfortable, and not merely those doing the discovering that AG Sessions works cute.

This is bad. This is not the sort of ceremonial dinner with the German Ambassador or tea with British Ambassador, this is a meeting with the top Russian on US soil. Maybe the top spy and recruiter. Looking the other way on this is really not an option IMO. Clearly there is some 'there, there' as it has been substantiated, but what is the remedy to this innocent mistake? You know we are going into legal word game land where there will be debate over otherwise trivial words and context (like 'I was just a citizen in those meetings, not a senator or a surrogate').

BTW - I am blown away that the Biden story is not fake news.

NYTimes is fully allowing Wapo to take the lead on all of this stuff (including, practically speaking, the Obama admin's late-hours intel archiving maneuvers story that the Times broke), practically adopting in its coverage a tone of "well, we're not sure these allegations have any merit, but people are saying..."

So the spin, which I heard three times this morning, is that Sessions was speaking in terms of his meetings only in official campaign context. Waiting for the youthful indigestion stuff to start parading out. Elected officials are simply shameless.

Republicans can't stay silent, and they'll do everything they can to keep Sessions in the position. He lied under oath, he should be out.

He might recuse himself but I'm guessing nothing is going to come from the whole perjury thing because everything is terrible.
