I think we're underestimating Trump/Bannon. They knew this reaction was coming. I can't tell whether this is a distraction or they're just purposefully eroding the center. You're either Trump or anti-American. Shades of Hugo Chavez.

Distraction for what? Think it is widely agreed upon that all his EOs are written poorly and wrote with confusion. Think this one is more of the same, except, it actually tried to do something and is failing miserably.

Guy at Hoover finds it unpersuasive? Really shocking. Here's remarks he makes prefatory to the 'butchering' you allege:

I have not yet examined the EO with sufficient care to determine for myself its legality. The EO was obviously issued in haste, without the usual procedural or substantive review within the Executive branch, and without thinking through its consequences. So he hasn't examined the legality of the order, but instead decides the real issue is her decision process for deciding not to defend the order. You see how a person might question his method of assessing her actions?

Let's be clear: her decision is almost certainly contentious, but her actions really aren't the crux of the matter.

Yeah, I mean if their goal was to subtly take our country toward fascism they're doing a bad job. They just seem so hilariously disorganized that I can't believe that it is all one big con for some even more nefarious purpose.

I understand there are a variety of ways drumpfco could have sidestepped Yates on the EO, foregoing the hysterical overreaction.

It's not drumpf's EO that's "on trial" here. It's drumpf and his mob and their ineptitude.
