you guys and you're platitudes. knock it off already. as mentioned several times over; this is exactly what the GOP wants. a deranged lunatic to push through whatever they want. Whatever stink leftover will fall at the hands of trump and no one actually pushing and creating the policy. so while the policy may be covered in 10lbs of shit, the policy still stands.

Unlike our esteemed Republican Congresspersons, I do not think JH would go as far to sell his soul for GOP pet projects.

I would sell my soul because it's not worth much. I just don't think the Trump presidency will be worth the lasting damage to American democracy, the Republican Party, or the conservative movement even if we get a few policy priorities passed in the short term.

you having a soul could impact people in a positive way, since you've decided to live in the belly of the beast. A real resistance has to be strong in the GOP for anything to change.

Not speaking about JH in particular, but it's time for reasonable republicans to stand up and push back against what is obviously a dangerous human being. Silence is consent at this point. The GOP put this guy in, the GOP needs to help stop him. Otherwise, they should go down with the lot of them and the GOP should be consigned to history.

agreed.

also, what is to be done about the average Trump supporter than can only communicate via memes, saying libtard & snowflake, and RTing Ann Coulter? are they a lost cause, are we really that stupid as a people? can these people be indoctrinated to be good and decent?

nearly every policy Trump is putting forth is a GOP wet dream. Trump/Bannon is the GOP now

I don't know about labeling them the average Trump voter, but those people you describe above, yeah -- fuck em. We always knew the GOP had those people on lock, and I kinda like them being out in the light now

Let's not lose sight of the fact that Trump under-performed McCain and Romney

we're all still americans. We'll have to convince many of them that Trump and his ilk are not on the side of working class people. Otherwise, it will happen again, if not with Trump, with Pence or some other extremist. I think Brantt is right about one thing, dems have lost touch with enough working class people that they no longer believe dems are the ones working for them. They're wrong if they think the GOP wouldn't sell the lot of them for a 1% tax break, but that's how they see it.

Some people on my facebook are just dumb. The one guy is quite smart, with an aerospace engineering degree, etc. He piddled around State College working as a bouncer for years before getting his MBA. Now he suddenly thinks everyone who fails should suffer. If a black man in a poor area piddled around for years working a dead end job, they'd never get out. We used to call him "Sleestak" in high school because he looked like a sleestak, kinda. You know, dudes making fun of fellow dudes. Now the nickname is kinda spot on.

The majority of GOP voters watch Fox News 24/7 and have been for years, it's their main source of info. And now our president is one of those people

the Brantts will eat it up, and then Trump is protected from real, researched criticism because these morons won't even read, listen or consider a view that hurts their world view.

it's amazing. National Review, Redstate, The Federalist, etc etc don't even get mentioned now. those guys are all cucks

it's mind boggling how quickly the GOP got run over by the extremist wing of their party. Donald fucking Trump is the president, and they're still in denial for the most part. there's no "taking back the party" imo. it's been taken over by 4chan (/pol/ and /b/), r/theDonald, infowars, and breitbart. motherfucking "lifezette"-- a piece of shit fake news blog run by garbage person laura ingraham-- has more pull in Spicer's press room than NYT or WaPo or even a traditional conservative stronghold like WSJ

WHYY's Terry Gross interviewed Luke Harding today and he outlined some of the KGB field manual stuff of the I was expressing earlier today. He took it further pointing out that press manipulation is a key aspect in Russia that Donald cannot do in the states. If it were Putin the news would have reported, with photographic evidence, that the Mall would have been packed. Every paper, radio and television outlet would have reported it as the most people ever. Trump cannot get away with that, but Vladimir can.

He highlighted so many elements of Trumps ground game that are straight up FSS/GRU moves. Information control, brow beating messages into the perceived truth, manipulating the "working class" (means poor) with delusional nationalistic messaging, flexibility in the truth tuned to each audience, and a control of wealth by the wealthy connected through government (i.e., the oligarchs).

In the end I wonder if/when/how Trump was trained. It is just too eerily similar to the know behaviors. Is Bannon the key? All in all, this keeps our eyes absolutely off the ball watching the shit show and opening us up for more disastrous eventualities.

When I found out, and I mentioned this earlier, that Lifezette got the first question of the administrations first press conference that it is a propaganda outfit. Someone needs to dig into its founding and funding.

The majority of GOP voters, like the majority of all voters, maybe catch a bit of news while watching the local news for weather in the morning or see a bit of the nightly news in the evening or read an article they come across on Facebook, but are mostly disengaged from politics on a day to day basis. The majority of GOP voters have never heard of 4chan or Inforwars and don't know what Redstate or the Federalist is either. The majority don't have Twitter accounts, don't listen to Rush or Hannity, don't post about politics on the Internet, aren't watching FOX News on a daily basis, etc.

i do agree with jh regarding HOW people consume their news (which is why i read local rags and watch local news), but WHAT they consume is now coming from the outlets td is describing. they're shaping the conservative viewpoint.

don't think you need to necessarily read 4chan/breitbart/infowars to not come into contact with all the content those 3 sites publish just by selective advertising/sponsored posts on Facebook that trickle down to everyone.
