Lamar Alexander, 'Obama's education nominees only took 2 or 3 hours so I'm not scheduling another hearing for this billionaire slimeball who would dismantle public education if it was up to her.'

Yeah, it really is laughable that these folks are putting a time limit on questioning the person who is going to set our nation's education policies for the next four years. And that really goes for any of the nominees. These people are going to direct our country for the next four years and they should have to answer all relevant questions related to their candidacy. Especially someone as controversial as this nominee.

Oh God and half the time she spent in the room was to hear Republicans gushing over her and thanking her for accepting the nomination. Gimme a fucking break.

No surprise there. Most Trump supporters have jobs and work during the day.

did they ever get to the extent of accountability required of MI's private charters? Because many people are saying basically not much has been required of them

Probably not because Alexander gave them no time, refused a second session, and said the rest can be done in writing.

In better news, there are rumblings that Rubio might grow a spine and vote against Tillerson in committee. You'd think he'd be against stem cell research!

Ran across someone attempting to make the quantitative case that approval polling indicates with reasonable confidence that, in the weeks since the election, comfortably more than 80 thousand drumpf voters in MI, PA & WI have, essentially, changed their minds about their ballot choice for POTUS.

more news from the White Nationalism White House

New Trump Adviser Being Sued for Hiring Whites to Attack Blacks

Reed Cordish allegedly called blacks “urbans” and hired thugs to scare them away from his restaurants and clubs. Now he’s got a job in the White House.

President-elect Donald Trump’s newest White House adviser runs a real-estate company currently being sued by blacks who accuse it of racial discrimination and hiring white men to physically attack and eject them.

We-hell, it looks like YOU did not count on Bob Corker, the Senator without male sexual organs, allowing as to how the entire Senate will be allowed to vote on Tillerson whether or not he wins sufficient votes in committee to go the conventional route. That basic dismissal of the committee's role is within the Senate's rules, but it ain't exactly SOP

So Rubio and McCain are needed in that scenario.

The organization I volunteer with our bill was championed by Corker. He came and spoke at some church right off the hill to us. They gave him some out of print prayer journal that Lincoln used. Fuck you Corker.

Sending a nominee to the floor without a committee's recommendation isn't SOP because committees don't shoot down nominees who'd otherwise have a shot at confirmation hardly ever. I'm not sure what the mechanism is, but Rubio might be required to vote to send the nomination to the floor without recommendation. I'd think he would do that as a courtesy regardless of his position on Tillerson's confirmation, as might some Dems. In a normal administration, this level of resistance usually prompts a withdrawal of the nomination. But if Trump is committed to the nomination, it should get a vote of the full Senate. There is a tremendous amount of default deference to a president filling out a cabinet, and the randomness of committee assignments probably shouldn't be the thing to derail a nomination.

If Rubio votes no in committee, would strongly expect McCain and Graham at least will join him on the floor. Would guess Sasse and a few others would be possibilities. Some Dems might cross over so he could be confirmed anyway, but he'll need Dem votes.

I also still think Rubio will vote yes, and think he probably should practically, though I would love him voting no as an early punch in the nose.
