No, nothing exists in a vacuum, and there's plenty, plenty of blame to go around, but he won the GOP primaries quite forcefully, and currently has 76% support amongst registered Republicans. I think Hillary should be vilified as one of America's greatest monsters for allowing this to occur, but the GOP, faced with dwindling demographics, has aggressively courted, fostered and enflamed the type of voter that would see Trump as a viable, good candidate. He is the GOP's Frankenstein's monster.
