Told them the US wouldn't be far behind
I've gotten to the point that I basically think Trump voters (we used to call them republican, btw, because that's what they are for the most part) are a bunch of pussies who were in such dire need of a daddy figure to keep them safe from librruls and terrorists and immigrants and blacks and gays and transgenders and the IRS and, dare I say, common sense, that they were willing to destroy everything that is great about this country. Empty-headed cowards. Their whole political philosophy is based on "please someone hold me I'm so damned scared."

Leaving aside how dumb and counterproductive it was, it also undercuts the media as an institution by further erasing its role as gatekeeper.

Tillerson’s dubious claim that neither he nor Exxon ever lobbied against sanctions began to unravel almost immediately. Sen. Bob Corker, the committee chair, pulled at the string: "I think you called me at the time,” he said, referring to when Russia sanctions were being debated on the Hill.

I tend to think that a document that the president and president elect were briefed on, was roaming capitol hill, and had been in the hands of a number of journalistic outfits is newsworthy. The public has some right to that.slugsrbad wrote:jerseyhoya wrote:JUburton wrote:surprising how many of the LIBERAL MEDIA are anti buzzfeed's full publishing of the document

Yea, and BuzzFeed had seem to be gaining traction in the political journalism arena.
It's a fun read because of schadenfreude, but doesn't accomplish anything.

That said, and I don't know how buzzfeed presented it (whether it was just 'here it is!' or if there were any disclaimers), but it needs to be accompanied with a ton of cautionary words stating just how unverified it is and maybe even a retelling of what they tried to verify or any inaccuracies they already found.

guess its an agree to disagree thing. distortion is out of their control and while i would have presented it in a different context, i think at its core its a newsworthy document. i do think that its a boon to trump in his dishonest media narrative which is a shame.pacino wrote:JUburton wrote:I tend to think that a document that the president and president elect were briefed on, was roaming capitol hill, and had been in the hands of a number of journalistic outfits is newsworthy. they had several disclaimers but it was instantly put aside and distorted. i don't think it's responsible. i do think it's a serious problem that Trump said there would be 'consequences'.

buzzfeed released a document that was actually part of a fbi case file.
idk, fuck trump.
