I did it 3 times, about 90 minutes from WC. Check Norma's FB page to make sure she will be open. Call ahead if you want a whole pie. She has limited capacity there.

have a regular slice of her "Boardwalk" pizza and a Detroit slice. She is a real gem.

BTW the pan does not go in the dishwasher. In fact you'd probably get away with just wiping with a paper towel when you have 2 days of leftovers.

DIshwashers aren't the same but it's the detergent more than anything. This house has the cheapest Frigidaire available and it does fine provide you don't overload silverware. The flatware I have is part of that problem.

Haven't picked out a dishwasher for the new house yet. Was thinking Bosch but they don't seem to be what they once were.

Back on a pizza note I excited to try a new group of pizza places after I move. I think Mission Pizza will be the first.

Salvatore's is a Trenton tomato pie place in Wisconsin (Sun Prairie and Madison locations).

It's a must-visit if you're out that way. Trenton-Napoli hybrid.

TP you ever have any pizza in Phoenix. There's a pizza festival tomorrow I'm going too.. just curious if there are any must tries in the area.

Pizzeria Bianco is a must and Pomo in Scottsdale is pretty good IMO. Also like Craft 64 in Old Town

taco festival > pizza festival

don't think there's anyone there that's a must eat. i went to this a few years ago. probably better to just walk towards downtown and go to pomo that big recommended. there's one there too. craft 64 is underrated.

Bianco is the Neapolitan that the rest of America has tried to imitate. I had the original (waited 3 hours) and then had Pane Bianco, operated by Chris Bianco's brother, and it was just as good.

Pizza Festivals are fun but the pie is good only if they have ovens on site. If the pizza comes in a box, it's suboptimal.

Grimaldi's is there, it's a chain but a good imitation of the brooklyn original.

Just for kicks try Kono, a pizza cone that is not epicurean but would be awesome at a football or baseball game; easy to eat.

this was a few years back, as i said nothing to write home about, but about half of them had food trucks with an oven and the others were shuttling them in on hot boxes from their local restaurant.

was actually kinda excited about the kono, but a friend had it and was not too impressed.

Bee Cave and Spicewood are nice little towns along Rt 71 in the Texas hill country about 15 miles west of downtown Austin. I moved here for a bunch of reasons, but finding good pizza wasn't even in the Top 100 of the reasons why.

Nonetheless, Spicewood has two spectacular Neapolitan pie joints that are as good as La Porta. Casa Nostra and Pizzeria Sorellina.

Bee Cave already had the reliable Jersey Giant Pizza (NJ strip mall style pie) and Toss, which is NY style pizza with a thin, crisp crust but Texas toppings like brisket or pulled pork.

About a month ago, a new place opened called 'ZZA. It looks very much like a fast casual chain, but the only other location is in St. Louis. This was my first taste of the St Louis style with provel cheese. The flatbread crust was excellent but probably not much like traditional STL style. I tried two types, one that had Sun Gold and Kumato tomatoes on it.

I have 5 worthy pizza joints within 10 minutes of home, way better than any place I've ever lived.

I think they developed a woodered-down version for the mass market. It seemed like slightly smoky but otherwise conventional pizza cheese.

I was just back in Philly, woulda gone to Shackamaxon if I had seen this one day sooner:

https://patch.com/pennsylvania/lansdale/s/gv3gd/7-pa-pizza-places-among-nations-best-popular-website-says

I can vouch for all the other PA pies on this list.

Here's the national top 10 with my notes:

10. John's of Bleecker Street (New York, New York) - absolutely solid old school pie
9. Lou Malnati's Pizzeria (Chicago, Illinois) - excellent version of this kind of pie
8. Patsy's (New York, New York) - the throwiest of the throwback pies, tastes like 1968
7. Sally's Apizza (New Haven, Connecticut) - wondrous orbs, properly behind Pepe's
6. Totonno's (Brooklyn, NY) - almost as old school as Patsy's. wonderful
5. Buddy's Pizza (Detroit, Michigan) - haven't had it. But I love Detroit style
4. Pequod's (Chicago, Illinois) - as discussed, for me it schtunked up the joint. Will try again some day.
3. Razza Pizza Artigianale (Jersey City, New Jersey) - pretty much the best Neapolitan anywhere
2. Lucali (Brooklyn, New York) - I had a version of this at his brother's Brooklyn pizzeria, and it was unearthly good
1. Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana (New Haven, Connecticut) - Hard to argue with this classic

Pepe's is apparently opening a location in the Bethesda MD mall (?) late 2020.

I still haven't been to 3 Amy's, but having been trying to up my knowledge/understanding of the good stuff lately.

Been making some pies at home (pizza + salad being my wife's favorite meal that isn't soup) and want to eventually build a little brick oven in the backyard.

I really liked Pomodoro’s in Fairfax. It’s been awhile though.
