dunno what to tell you. when he was on the ground he didn't necessarily look in great shape though as he was face down.

I think they've arrested a bunch of people in the area tonight. Don't know if we've seen pics of suspect 1.

I think some of the confusion on the # of people in custody is they've arrested a handful of people and let some go again because they were quickly cleared. Just people out and about in the area who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Given the confusion surrounding the initial gun fight and the slowness of the media in reporting this, wouldn't surprise me if the first suspect was shot and mortally wounded before media really arrived to document the goings on.

Gunfire and explosions pierced the night in two usually quiet Boston-area communities late Thursday and early Friday as an MIT campus police officer was shot and killed and law enforcement officers pursued two suspects in a high-speed chase after they had reportedly carjacked a vehicle.

State police said the carjacked Mercedes came to a stop in Watertown and the suspects opened fire on the pursuing police officers. One of the suspects lit what officials described as an explosive and threw it in the officers’ direction, police said.

A state police spokesman, Dave Procopio, confirms explosives have been involved in this ongoing situation.

The suspect then advanced on officers and was tackled and taken into custody as was the other suspect, officials said. One of the suspects was ordered to strip naked and was interviewed on the street.

WHDH, citing a law enforcement source, said the incident apparently began as an armed robbery of a 7-11 in the Boston area. A Mercedes was carjacked after the officer was shot, officials said.

County DA: One suspect (black cap guy) is dead. Shot during the gun battle and died at hospital. One (white cap guy) fled and is still at large.

Police press conference now. Won't release names or further information.

Local news reporting nekkid guy was cleared and released after three interrogations.

the suspect had bomb wounds. Evidence of shrapnel and burns. Was in cardiac arrest when he arrived. Died on the table.

I'm starting to wonder if this was a couple of idiots trying to live out what that ex-cop in LA attempted to do. I guess we'll find out soon enough, but it sure seems like these guys were prepared for a battle rather than trying to hide. If it really started with a 7-11 robbery, then it looks like they were trying to get caught or force a confrontation. Or maybe they just wanted some twinkies.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see if this was political in some way. It may not have been.

Well they threw a bomb (maybe grenade?) at the police in the stand off before the one guy escaped. It went off. The now dead suspect had an IED on his chest.
